Hi !

They'll just announce bugger all, stop dreaming. And even if they did, they have already lost all credit.

NX1 might be "ahead" but a company with such a crappy communication and which is not even able to build a camera with a proper AF-ON button, even after users have explained in detail what it should be is not reliable.

I am finishing my NX30 and then I'll pass on to something else. In the meantime, I'll just take photos and stop holding me breath waiting for them to tell us s**t or what not.

Had enough with this communication policy.

Cheers
Jay

Companies don't consider unprofitable products to be gems.

Not as simple as that. It is unprofitable because of market conditions and/or marketing strategy, intrinsically it is a good product, with potential, as recognised by many reviewers.

Pricing is/was good, in line with analogue products from competition.

The question is what to do. Past investment is a sunk cost as any finance analyst will tell you. The situation must be evaluated based on the situation "as is", regardless of the past investments.

What would I do? Well:

- until I have more clarity as to the market evolution, I would stop investing more money in it, I would reassign related workforce to other similar positions in my organisation so as not to lose them in case

- I would, however, keep producing the cameras to the extent that they sell right now since this is a "free" revenue stream.

- maybe I would release products in the pipeline (300mm?) if costs are small to bring them to market (i.e. if I judge that the limited additional investment to bring them to market will give customers an indication of my commitment to the system).

- I would also restrict my service and marketing activities to the markets which have enough volume to at least break even.

This way I would keep my options open whilst not losing additional money on a product that might still be profitable in the future.

Very good analysis. I tottaly agree. Even a minor software update(that a team of 2 or 3 programers can easily do) can give some confidence to the NX branding, and the NX500 and NX1 are still the cheapest, lighter and smaller A-B 4K video cameras with the best sensor in class.

It wouldn't take much to simply give the appearance of a product development team that still exists, however small it might be and however minor the firmware updates might be. It's really a no brainer to preserve a call on a system that they may be "parking" with a wait and see attitude.

Hi, me <> Samsung and I was only speaking about NX1!!!

I honestly  think there's no more market in between smartphones and high end DSLRs...

Regarding the rest of NX line I am really doubtful...

..and I found a 500$/€/£ camera kit (NX500) an excellent idea to have supplamenting your pro body(-ies, for other companys). Some people here have presented some amazon sale charts recently, and compact system cameras was the bulk of sales for both Sony and Samsung.
Everything else is pointless from there and under, as has been already consumed by camera phones (except some special categories like deluxe compacts, waterproof cameras etc.

A full frame body with APS-C crop would be an excellent idea for last quarter of 2016.

Nevertheless, I just want to keep using my equipment, the rumor mill is just a hoby!

I agree with you on this point. Even us imagelogger types have had no feedback on future plans. There is nothing special planned for Vegas I believe. Its a shame, I have had a great 3 years with Samsung NX cameras and 3 great years with the GX line. No matter what the company deals in ,if it ain't turning a profit it won't be continued.

"Is Nikon a subsidiary of Mitsubishi?"

"But the basic answer is, no, Nikon is an independent company with its shares publicly traded on the Nikkei."

But I agree that Samsung won't be buying Nikon, for a variety of reasons.

"Owned" was the wrong term because the Mitsubishi Group (of which Nikon is a member), has no parallel, at least in the USA...

That's neat. I didn't realize we had an imagelogger amongst us.

DPR just did a profile on another imagelogger

I don't think it's likely, it was just an example of the random rumours that have been floating around lately..

IMHO, it would make sense for Samsung to sell its mirrorless technology to Nikon, while Samsung retains its sensor business and starts producing sensors for Nikon.

The future is with computational aperture cameras which is primarily a sensor business.

Well, most of us hit it right on the head. Samsung just stopped making cameras.

I'm sure samsung will do whatever they think is "right", w/o listening to customers.

So don't hope that they'll notice us anyway. The never did.
