In the park at night with my X-A1
4

Took the family to the park today since the weather was still nice here on the day after Christmas. Of course the sun had set by 4:30 but that didn't stop me from taking a few photos while my wife watched the kiddies.

All images were shot as RAW, minimally processed in Lightroom (applied camera profile, cropped where necessary to straighten the horizon) and exported to jpeg.

I almost jumped on one of the deals for the X-Pro1 or X-T10 last week, but when this little guy performs like this it's hard to justify the upgrade!

Yes like you I was thinking of upgrading my X100 original and then when I see the results....I am super happy and don't want to upgrade.

Lovely shots.

Great colors and tonality.

Hard to upgrade X-A1/2, they have the best sensor. I wish Fuji used that sensor in their high end bodies.

Buy a X-T10 and keep the X-A1. The X-T10 offers an EVF and silent mode that your X-A1 lacks. Colors and detail are different but both create good images.

...and you can bring 2 cameras with 2 lenses attached when shooting.

I already have X-T10 and X-A2. I sold X-A1, I probably should have kept it.

The X-T10 offers an EVF

I rarely use EVF, I don't like that thing pressed against my face, I don't like looking through a keyhole, I usually prefer lower shooting point. It also much easier to control camera shake shooting from lower position.

and silent mode that your X-A1 lacks.

Why would I care about silent mode? I'm not some pervert who likes surreptitiously shooting people on the street. The only time I use ES is when I need shorter shutter times.

Colors and detail are different but both create good images.

Depends on your definition of 'good'. Once you shoot with both cameras you can't help but notice how much better colors and color definition are coming from the bayer sensor. Fuji shot themselves in the foot with x-trans.

...and you can bring 2 cameras with 2 lenses attached when shooting.

Why would I want to carry two cameras? I'm not shooting for money, I do it for my enjoyment. I definitely don't want such inconveniences. I might have an extra lens in a pocket, but most often I shoot with the lens I've chosen for the occasion.

Re: In the park at night with my X-A1

My two major pain points with the X-A1 are the lack of a viewfinder, which makes it extremely hard to see what I'm shooting in bright sunlight, and the poor autofocus speed. The X-T10 takes care of both of these so I think there's a good chance I will pick one up the next time it goes on sale.

Good point about keeping the X-A1 as well, both bodies are so light that I could easily carry both.

In direct sunlight you might see nothing at the X-As tilt screen but you will see the image in the EVF.

and silent mode that your X-A1 lacks.

It has nothing to do with perverted things. It depends on the situation. I shot some images at the last Xmas family event with silent shutter. It does not disturb as the loud X-A1 shutter. If you shoot in CL or CH mode the camera sounds like a typewriter mashine gun. The electronic shutter silences this too.

Colors and detail are different but both create good images.

True.

It all depends on your shooting style. If you have a slow workflow where you have the time to swap lenses then you don't need 2 cameras. If you shot moving subjects then you might like that approach. Bring a zoom on one and a prime on another camera. Go big with one and small with the other. It depends on your needs.

The X-A1 with the Bayer sensor is Fuji's little secret. This camera is awesome!

Great sensor + great lens + competent photographer = wonderful pictures.

It's a nice combo. I use the X100 which uses same sensor as A1 and love it's colors. Been tempted to buy A1 just to get the same sensor AND tilting screen that my E-1 doesn't have.
