Activate Shoot Without Lens ONCE and forget it. That's rough.

It's rough that you even need to do it all.

There really seems to be no point at all in having that Panasonic menu item. Not trying to be a smartie, just really curious why they included it.

You're right. It's kind of pointless having it, since there's no need to ever disable it, even if you never use manual or adapted lenses.

I've heard a couple explanations for this.

1: it protects the shutter from firing when there's a possibility of an obstruction being in the way.

2: It's a health check. If you don't have "shoot without lens" enabled, if something goes wrong with the communication between the body and the lens - there's something wrong with the lens, lens isn't properly seated etc. you are notified vs. just getting weirdness.

Even with SWL active, if a lens isn't properly mounted you'll get a "Lens not mounted" error message.

While I enjoy shooting with adapted lenses it is a bit of a weird situation. I would guess that 99% of m43 bodies sold will never see a non-native lens attached. It makes total sense for the camera to point out that something's wrong when no lens is attached.

Thank Tony. That's what I'm doing right now (set the focal point for the IS). Now all I have to do is hold it really steady while rotate the focus ring.

Your on your way. It's a great little camera it doesn't have all the features of the premium models but it can take great photos... Enjoy..
