Great capture! Especially when this is your first shot using this lens!

I'm sure you'll get a lot more great captures as you understand and practice more with using this lens.

A lot of people say this lens is not good. And to be honest, if you want "hair counting" sharpness on birds, than at least for now (we still have to wait for the 300/4 and 100-400), it's better to go with APSC/FF cameras and lenses, or at least 40-150/2.8 (but a bit too short for shooting birds), 50-200/2.8-3.5, 90-250, 300/2.8.

But my experience is, up till 250mm it's still pretty sharp, perfect for shooting larger animals in the zoo.

That's a very good opening capture! Looking forward to your future work with the 100-300mm.

You'll find f7.1 is the sweet spot at 300mm with that lens.

What a great start to an extension of your technological partner, Antonio

Lovely picture. I would crop the left hand side for a square pic, I think. it is kind of empty space.

Great first effort, keep them coming.

I am struck that you got some pretty good feather detail, even though it looks like the lighting was very flat and provided less than optimal contrast. As was said, try it at f/7.1 or even 6.3 to get a little more definition in the feathers.

Nice work!

A good start

I like it; a few critiques:

1) i'd crop out the branch on the right; distracts the viewer's eyes

2) I don't mind the empty space on the left; it 's where the egret was looking into; a square crop would do too

3) It's a bit underexposed (use levels to adjust to the 'correct' exposure)

A good attempt

Cheers,
