Canon G5X

Please, do not mislead the customers about Canon G5X file quality. Sincerely, mechanicaly camera is superb! Viewfinder is outstanding! The file in the end is completely useless!!! I tested it for five days and I was really worried that I am doing something wrong, since I am user of G series since Canon G7. (+G9, G10, G11, G15 and G16). I already sold my G15 and G16, but returned money immediately when I saw G5X files. Absolute disaster. 24-110 mm lens is absolute failure!

True - worst camera ever.

Colours are missing, and some images turn out f*cking dark and fuzzy.

Seems to be a wise decision to return it.

But then again - my S90 isn’t much better.

Wow - those pictures are really terrible

Better be quick and return it 😳

Re: Canon G5X

Seriously, Canon must've attached a wrong lens to the camera you had, as the rest all have a shorter reach.

I have seen so many excellent images from the G5X, I'd have to say it's YOU dude.
But if you don't like the G5X and you do like Canon's other cameras it seems likely to be the Sony sensor you have an issue with, and I will agree that the extra DR CAN result in a loss of perceived contrast and snap if you don't adjust for it.

He did a similar thing with the 1DX.

And how do you adjust for it, please?

As I mentioned in another thread, these starting points work for me, but it's a matter of personal taste.

It's been an interesting exercise, because it has forced me to look at how to push the G5X pictures further to get that "snap".

Using Lightroom for G5X/G7X, I'd tend to push clarity up by 5, and vibrance and saturation by 15 (I use just 5 on G1X MkII Raws). Saturation increase can sometimes come down to 10.

I also bring highlights down by 25 and shadows up by 25, and then adjust from there, particularly shifting the blacks and whites so they are showing as barely under and over exposed in some parts of the image..

I also add a medium contrast curve. On some images a strong one works better but then you might need to pull the blacks back a bit.

It's just a starting point but it gets me in the ballpark.

Re: Don't talk rot.

I am Canon user for last 35 years. Canon's cameras getting worse in a sense of image quality. I changed G5X back to G15 simply because the file on G15 is so much better. And files from 5D MK II are so much better than 1DX. I hope that I explained

I love my 5D MkIII, but I don't agree. The files need processing differently.

It's a bit of a learning curve, but they contain more information and more detail if you do it properly.

Re: Canon G5X

Possibly there was a problem with Windows explorer being on file details rather than images.

Impossible to know what this guy is even talking about. Just a bunch of nonsense unless he gets more specific and/or posts examples. "[The file quality is worse]"...
