NX500 hot pixel mapping

Does anyone know if this camera has a hot pixel mapping function? I have about 3 hot pixels that I wish to map away... was wondering if I could map within the camera itself so I do not need to use a photoediting s/w to do so.

Anyone? I tried those tricks used on Nikon and Canon cameras, and even tried re-flashing the firmware, but nope...

Just an update... I tried to bring it in to the local Samsung Service Centre (in Singapore). Unfortunately, the service centre guys had no idea what a hot pixel mapping is, even if I insisted that it should be there in the developer firmware.

In the end they simply "upgraded" the firmware on my camera, which didn't solve a thing.

I guess that's the problem when you buy from a brand that's a jack of all trades. I'm guessing apart from phone repairs they have no specialised knowledge at all.

The unfortunate thing with my situation is that one of the hot pixels is adjacent to one another, so LR and most RAW processors don't pick it up automatically.

This isn't covered under warranty?

They have no idea what I'm talking about, and I'm pretty sure if I point it out to them they will pretend that they can't see it; that's how service goes in Singapore typically...

Re: NX500 hot pixel mapping

Not sure if the NX500 is the same as the NX1 but in the (NX1) Service Manual it shows the pixel mapping process using a PC-based s/w app. There is nothing built-in unfortunately. This is too bad and one of the many reasons I ended up not staying with Samsung. One NX1 I received had a large cluster of stuck red pixels almost dead-center right out of the box. It was quickly returned for a refund after having lens mount problems with other new NX1's.

Digital cameras will have bad pixels over time and there's really no excuse for not including a built-in mapping tool. (Yes, it can be corrected in post but still this should be a common feature today as with many other cameras).

Re: NX500 hot pixel mapping

I saw your other post but I could not find any service manual of the NX1 on the internet. May I know where you obtained it, or could you email me a copy at trenzterra@gmail.com ? Perhaps if I'm able to show them the service manual they may be able to do something about it. Thank you!

Re: NX500 hot pixel mapping

Also I know it can be corrected in post. The problem is that Lr's built in algorithm doesnt detect some of the more prominent hot pixels (because its in a cluster of 2 or 3, which I found out after using rawdigger) so I have to use the spot removal tool if I want to get rid of them which is a little troublesome after a while.

Re: NX500 hot pixel mapping

Service manual was purchased directly from Samsung (USA) at their parts division. Was only $10 I think and arrived quickly (came on a USB stick). Suspect they have one for the NX500 as well. You'll have to purchase your own copy since this is copy-protected material.

NX500 service manual seems to be available at: http://www.samsungparts.com/Products/Parts_and_Accessories/PID-SM-NX500.aspx. And the one for NX1 at: http://www.samsungparts.com/Products/Parts_and_Accessories/PID-SM-NX1.aspx. Each costs 12 USD and comes on a USB drive. Before getting them it would be good to know the kind of information contained. Could you maybe share the main items from the table of contents?

Re: NX500 hot pixel mapping

I just ordered the nx500 service manual. Let's see how it goes.

I'm thinking of just letting go my camera altogether though. The number of hot or even white pixels even at iso400 at above 1s irritates me to no end. Strangely they don't appear in a lens cap shot but I get tens of dots on a real shot on a black background. Is this normal for a nx500 to do this?

It is a test all NX500 owners should do.

Re: NX500 hot pixel mapping

Hello Community.

I know it's quite an old thread, but I do have a related issue with my NX. Few days back I bought a new Samsung nx300 and it has 1-2 hot pixels. I did try a longexposure it only made it worse.

Since it doesn't offer pixel-mapping.  Did anyone find a solution?

Thank you 🙏
