Very sharp all the way to the maximum aperture. Solid built and still light weight.

I agree. Possibly the sharpest lens I've ever owned, digital or film.

That is not at all unusual for a macro lens.  They are flat field, highly corrected lens made primarily for close up work.  I still have my 50/f2 for the old e system and also my 105 /2.8 Sigma.  Both are excellent, especially the 50 f/2.  Over they years I've owned quite a few and they were all excellent lenses, I don't remember a single one that was otherwise.  It's the nature of the beast.

I think this is true. The sharpest lens I owned in the film era was also a short telephoto macro, the 105mm f2.8 Micro Nikkor.
