S95 vs 330 HS

I've been enjoying shooting with my 330 HS, no complaints so far.  Ya know, it is what it is.  It's a change from "lugging around" my DSLRs.

Reason for this thread?  I keep coming across ads for "like new" S95(s) on my local Craigslist going for nothing.  For those who own or have owned both at the same time, is the IQ/shooting experience of the S95 such an "upgrade" that I should just pick up one of these pristine S95 or is the 330 HS I already own about the same?

1/2.3 inch 12mp Cmos vs 1/1.7 inch CCD is a wash.

The S95 opens up to F2.0 at the wide-end compared to F3.0 on the Elph. So i imagine you would notice an small but noticeable improvement indoors when shooting at the wide-end.

Then the Elph can zoom in a lot further making it more versatile.

I would either look for a more meaningful more expensive upgrade(rx100mk3 ish) or none at all.

I was thinking the S95's raw might be a huge asset but, ya know, I can always shoot with my Nikon J1 if I want to shoot with a 1" sensor and raw.  Thanks for your comments.

Re: S95 vs 330 HS

I have both.  I still enjoy the S95 and the CCD sensor is nice and sharp.  The 330HS has slightly more accurate auto white balance.  Even though it's widest aperture is 3.0 vs. 2.0 for the S95, I feel it does just as well in low light (slightly better, even), probably due to the CMOS sensor.  It's much more versatile as a pocket camera than the S95 due to the 24mm vs. 28mm wide angle, and of course the long end of the zoom.  The S95 has a dense, pleasing body and the clickable control ring around the lens, a nice feature.  The 330HS body is plastic (made in China vs. the S95 made in Japan), but I just dropped it over the weekend from a height of about 3 feet onto concrete and it survived just fine- no cracks or even tiny scrapes that I could find.  (Luckily the lens was retracted at the time.)  It's slightly easier to hold because of the raised "Canon" lettering, even though it's thinner than the S95.  You're right- if you want to shoot raw go with your Nikon J.  If you have plenty of spare money you won't necessarily regret purchasing an S95 but you are not going to be overly wowed by it over the 330HS.  All just my personal experience and opinion of course.

The canon s95 is a wonderful camera.

In daylight it does take superb pictures. I have one by the way.

So..,go for it in case camera is in good shape of course.

(As far as I am concerned I would not buy a second hand camera ).

I like my Canon S95.  Its biggest negative is chromatic aberration.  I almost never shoot raw.  If your histogram is not clipped you can do post-processing to improve the JPEG image.  However, if you use the wrong settings then raw has more latitude.
