canon 50mm 1.8 stm chromatic aberration

I just got the lens and am confused at what I am seeing. Can someone tell me if this is normal? Shot with a canon 5ti

Original test image:

Zoomed in to 100%

should there be that much chromatic aberration? theres clearly a large green outline on the top and red on the bottom.

any and all help is appreciated. Thank you

Yes, this is normal. I've forgotten what this specific kind of CA is called, but it's normal at wide apertures to have one color on sharp edges beyond the plane of focus, and the other color in front of the plane of focus. It should be fairly easy to remove in a program like Lightroom.

There's red, there's green, and there is purple (on the right, bottom).

Indeed, it is normal to see magenta/red in front of the focus plane and green behind, with a lens like this. Some lenses show blue/yellow LoCA, but that is very rare.

Process RAW with DPP DLO and it should be pretty much dealt with.
