NX300 Capability
1

Hi guys,

Just want to share a little bit about my equipment Samsung NX300. to make it simple, it its a good camera, easy to carry, and produce a pretty good images even with kits lens, but of course, it have several weaknesses too. Below i will point out several strong point and weak point of this camera.

Strong Point

- Lightweight, easy to be carried anywhere

- Touchscreen LED, pretty responsive, pretty clear and it's not static LED

- Easy to use, good control over the manual setting, thanks to the Ifn button on the lens.

- Long battery life, personally i use it for almost a day, and it only run out at evening.

Weak Point

- Lack of Lens choices

- A little bit hard to take a low light photos without a good flash

- The screen is not variangle tilt, you can only move it up and down. but it still nice

- No EVF which make me a little bit sad, but the liveview give me a better compensation on it.

Not sure what you mean by bad low light performance. What do you compare it against?

It's always tough to take good low light shots, but why is NX300 worse than cameras with similar sensor size?

cheers

It's not fair (nor is it appropriate) to call an intentional design feature a weak point - or a negative. I'm not picking on you, as I see it all the time - even by "professional" reviewers. You were aware before you bought the camera that it has no EVF, then call it a weak point.  If Samsung put an EVF on it you might be saying the size/weight are weak points (listed by you as a strong point.)  This applies as well to the tilt angle of the screen (for many of us a single-axis tilting screen is a big plus.)

Reviews should be relative to the product design and its direct peers.  If you buy a camera that doesn't have features you want, you should complain that you bought the wrong camera - no?

If you buy a compact car because you're interested in fuel mileage you couldn't very well complain  that it can't tow a trailer like your old pickup truck did.

All that aside, welcome to the site - enjoy the day!

Re: NX300 Capability

This was my first Samsung camera (now I have NX500 too). It's not the fastest or greatest, but I think it's better than most of the cameras in this class.

About the low light...

Here is my Pole Dance show gallery - http://www.nonchoiliev.com/play-pole-2015

And Blind Guardian metal concert - http://www.nonchoiliev.com/blog/2651

About the lenses - only good telephoto options above 85 are limited.

Now can be found for less than 200 Euro.

Very good job Noncho! What lenses did you use for those 2 sessions? I liked most of your photos in general. Now you use the NX500 with 30,45,60 and 85mm?

Both were taken with 45 1.8, because it's fast, sharp and small.

Now I use NX500 and NX300 with 10, 16, 30, 45, 60 and 85.

Usually for walk around I put 85 on NX500 and 30 on NX300, ready for many situations.

Re: NX300 Capability

Hi Bancika,

So, whenever i took a shot in a low light condition, somehow the autofocus is sometimes quite slow. I don't know what happen, but maybe you have the answer ?

Re: NX300 Capability

Hello Nevada5,

EVF or no EVF is actually fine for me. At the first time, i thought that maybe relying solely on liveview is a good idea, and it was. But sometimes i can't take a shot because the sunlight is too bright so i have to cover it a bit with my hand so i can see the picture on the screen. That is when i thought, maybe this camera really need an EVF. That is why i said that this camera weak point is no EVF.  Maybe i should change the term into Pros and Cons ?

Anyway, thank you for your reply, i really appreciate it

Re: NX300 Capability

Why are you using both NX500 and NX300 ?Maybe you should sell your NX300 because you already got NX500, but it is cool either way

But hey, that shot on pole dance and the concert were great. Maybe i should switch the lenses into the better one instead of using the kit standard all the time.

Re: NX300 Capability

Which telephoto lens can be found less than 200 Euro ?above 85 ?if that is true then it is pretty cheap man. In my country maybe the lens above the 85 would be around 250 Euro (i convert it based on my country currency).

About low lights, i dunno what is going on, but the af have trouble focusing in a low light condition, and the picture have so much noise on it if you at the concert or like a pub, maybe because there is still light (disco light) around, so the NX300 can still get a good light source. i'm going to try it again this night with a different setting, maybe that would change something.

Thank you for showing me your great photos

Re: NX300 Capability

I think that's a universal problem, it's hard for auto-focus to operate in low light. Do you have auto focus lamp option enabled? It uses the green led at the front to try to add some light while focusing. Can help when subject is near. It's somewhere in the settings.
