SX710 vs G7X

I had the SX700 and kept on having flash issues (i.e. it wouldnt pop up anymore) and Canon was nice enough to replace with the SX710.  I feel that picture quality has gotten worse with the "upgraded" camera.  Been reading about the G7X, and am thinking about trading in my SX710 and purchasing the G7X.  Worried about losing the zoom (love the long zoom on the 710) for travel.  I definitely want the wifi, and like the fact that the screen can flip for selfies (yes, been taking them for years).  Is there a better recommendation for the point/shoot series? Or is the G7X the camera I've been looking for?

Thanks in advance for the help!

If long zoom is important criteria, the g7x isn't for you.

I suggest you use ExposurePlot to analyze your photos and get a better sense of the focal lengths you most use:

Preferably you should analyze only the photos you "keep", and not all the photos you take in your trips - assuming you make such a distinction.

I used this tool when I was considering moving from a superzoom to a premium compact and it helped me understand that long reach is maybe nice to have, but I end up not keeping almost any photos taken at full tele.

Of course, to each his own, so check this yourself on your own gallery.

Re: SX710 vs G7X

I would look at the Nikon Coolpix P7800. It's a larger camera and doesn't have as big of a sensor as the G7X (but still larger than the one in your SX710). It also doesn't have a touch screen or built-in wifi. But it has a good, sharp 28-200mm F2-F4 lens, a fairly serviceable EVF, and an articulating LCD. It also takes Nikon WU1A wireless adaptor if you need wifi.

Thank you all.  I appreciate the app suggestion and will test it out.

I am currently looking into the Sony RX100 line of cameras.  Maybe its time for a change.

Re: SX710 vs G7X

To save money , a refurbished canon sx50 and it took better pictures than the canon sx700 or if expense isn't an issue a canon g3x.

Cheers

Steve.

Re: SX710 vs G7X

After researching some Sony cameras (including mirrorless) and reading reviews, I decided on the G7X.  Thanks all for your help!
