Olympus warranty service

I responded to a thread that complained about Olympus reliability issue as follow -

"I am also a big fan of Olympus, having tried EM-5 and E-PM2, and then EM-1, with quite a few of their lenses, including two good but "cheap" prime 25 and 45, and my two favourite zooms 12-40/f2.8 and the tiny 9-18mm. All with very satisfying IQ.

A few months ago, I was shocked to see the eyelet of my EM-1 got pulled out as I try to get the camera out of the camera bag. I called Olympus Hong Kong for repairs, but they refused, because I have not been able to locate the warranty. (It is just ironical when I can find the warranty of my older EM-5 and E-PM2). In the 50 years that I have been taking pictures, from all kinds of brands, compacts to DSLR, I have never seen an eyelet coming off.

Real pity to have such simple mechanical defect to blemish otherwise a great camera company."

While I was utterly disappointed by the cold reception I got from Olympus Hong Kong, I was very favourably impressed by Olympus Service Centre in Tokyo during my recent trip. It wasn't easy to find someone to converse with me in English, but once this hurdle was overcome, I was extremely pleased with their service. Despite I could not produce any warranty card, they serviced my EM-1 eyelets (both eyelets, one broke loose and another still intact) free of charge. I asked the lady to expedite the repairs as I will be leaving Tokyo in 3 days time. I gave them my camera on Sunday, and they said it would be available Tuesday morning. She also offered to do the firmware update for me.

I am a happy Olympus shooter again!
