And a very lovely model too.

Your post is a good demonstration of exactly why I prefer to use m4/3's equipment for both personal and professional shooting.

As a portrait the second image looks poorer in just about every way, not the lovely model I hasten to add :-). It has rather harsh contrast, giving a dark and somewhat muddy background.

Stuck record ...

Jim, none of the differences you mention in your comments/comparisons could possibly be because the light is different, different exposure parameters, different metering, etc, etc ... Must be the "inferior" camera/lens ...

Well, the model is smiling in the Nikon image. The Nikon must be better in this amazingly balanced competition.

yep Id have to agree with that comment..I too prefer the older image ..not because of the darker background of the latest ..but the harsh light in it does nobody any favours..would have been nice to have had a diffuser . the top image looks like i took it in shade whereas the other in full sun . I also prefer the pose in the older shot

I still obviously like em both cause its her indoors.  LOL

Jim was commenting on the photos, not the equipment. In fact, his comments were entirely about the lighting and composition with no reference to the equipment, either stated or implied.

Thanks for sharing

I also prefer the first picture by a large margin: the pool background does a lot to bring colors, context and an explanation for the particular pose. I also agree about the harsh contrast which does not fit with such a relaxed picture.

The first image is great but the second image lighting is very different, they are also a long way apart in exposure, 1/3200 vs 1/500 and dof is completely different. A better comparison would probably of been the 42.5 1.2 at 1.4 or even the 25mm 1.4 or 45 1.8. Both would of been much closer to the 70mm/2.8 of the original. As it is they are not even remotely similar in any way, apart from the beautiful model!

John, I was only commenting on the photos , I never said anything about the gear. All the gear used for these images is more than capable of making wonderful images .

I shoot both FF and mFT and both are very capable, there is a lot of pleasure gained by using the lighter smaller mFT kit. Harsh sunlight is always a challenge though here in not so sunny Scotland it will not be much of an issue for a while

I still obviously like em both cause its her indoors. LOL

A wise choice my friend

50yo? I thought something like 30ish.. OK, now for the images. D800 one is better, but it's different light, and the angle of shooting, D800 one is bit higher.

Cheers for the comments lads...yep she's aged well the old girl..it's the Italian blood in her..:-)

This thread was just for a bit of fun. Not a true comparison as different light etc..but i still think it's useful as i had some really top end nikon gear. Now I have top end MFT , I just think it's amazing what you can achieve these days.. I bloody love the new lens of mine too.. (40-150 pro) so sharp I nicked me finger on it .

Yep agreed. I do like the lighter gear . I took these in Bali while on a short break..so having the lighter carry on was a blessing,  plenty of sun in Australia  mate..too bleeding much
