Canon 100D/SL1 and 400mm f/5.6

So I have been looking for the perfect birding/wildlife lens for some time now and I think I may have just discovered it! I have had the usual 70-300 canon lenses and even the 70-200 f4 but they just lacked the reach I needed. I also have the Sigma 150-500mm lens but it's a heavy beast and I was never impressed with the IQ. I just got my 400mm f/5.6 today and these were  my very first shots with it, looks promising for when I can use it in anger in the bush!

They look very good.  Seems to pair up nicely with the SL1.  I've used my 100-400 on the SL1 and been pleased with the results.

Great choice (and nice shooting).  I just love my 400/5.6, and it's always the first lens I pick when going birding.

Enjoy your new toy!!!

Re: Canon 100D/SL1 and 400mm f/5.6

This post is apropo to my current dilemma. I too have an SL1 and love it but am not getting the close up results with my 70-300 and adding a doubler is only marginally better. I am considering either the 50-500 or the 150-500 Sigmas. But I'm little and older and carrying a heavy lens is not practical. I have never used a prime lens and wonder how it works for birds in flight.

Love to have your opinions.
