Panasonic g7 @4K.. which SD card?

Hi folks
Got stung by q PNY which had in big figures 100Mb/s on the packaging.  Turns out thats the best possible read speed with the write speed being rather more pedestrian.
Having had a look around can only see very expensive sandisks which are rated at 280mb/s...
Are there any other options that people can VOUCH for having ACTUALLY used them in their G7 to record 4K.
I can work Google well enough, but I find a lot of the claims around card speeds disingenuous.
Sorry if I appear slightly snooty, but looking for actual accounts of what does work and will work for me, not what should work based on spurious manufacturer packaging claims.
Many thanks in advance.

I've found the same (online).  The write speed is often not even shown - and that's what I care about more as I shoot in burst and take video.

I ordered some lexar cards and will post back once they arrive

I'm using the Lexar 1000x 128gb UHSII cards in my G7 to record 4K - work fine.

Coincidentally I have ordered, but not yet had it delivered, the same card but in 64gb size. It was on offer on Amazon's Black Friday and Cyber Monday at a very reasonable £20.

I've done a bit of research on it and it seems to be more than fast enough, although Lexar have a yet faster card just out. Most cards of 64gb and similar speed seem to be between two and four times as expensive.

This is what I've ordered .

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00OD70YMA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

It is listed today at £26.27, but over the weekend it was only £24.98 and on the special deal they discounted this by £5.

I really do think I got a bargain.

One thing that concerns me though is the included image rescue software. Is that because I'm likely to need it?

I don't have the G7, but am interested in what other have to say. I agree that the continuous write speed is what matters, not the (peak only?) read speed that is always used by the manufacturers and resellers.

This review by imaging resourc says the UHS-II card it tested was worse than the UHS-I card it tested. So you might be better off with "slower" UHS-I cards, including the one you have. Tests like this one make me think Panasonic is over stating the camera's UHS-II ability. Though I have to say I haven't seen Panasonic say anything but "UHS-II compatible", so it may be reviews/resellers/users who don't test it that misclaim (or are mislead to say) UHS-II speeds.

Also, one correction to the OP. The card you have is 100MB/s read, 8x faster than 100Mb/s that you state (100MB/s = 100 megabytes/s = 8 * 100 megabits/s = 800Mb/s), and claims 65MB/s write. Your card is also U3 certified, so it can continuously write continuously at a minimum of 30MB/s, less than the claimed 65MB/s (which might be a peak rate). The G7 has a max video bitrate of 100Mb/s (or 12.5MB/s byterate).

And yes I agree the eight times difference between one letter being capital vs small is bad for communication. Just to be clear, "MB" is supposed to be used to mean megabytes, and "Mb" and "mb" are supposed to mean megabits.

Speed test comparison

Great site, except they haven't tested any panasonic cameras. And which camera matched with which card makes a huge difference.

Example: comparing the sandisk UHS-II vs the lexar 1000x, the oly M5II prefers the sandisk, while the Rebel T6i/T6s prefer the lexar:

  • Oly E-M5 II: 75.6 (sandisk) 71.9 (lexar)
  • Canon Rebel T6i/s: 41.1 (sandisk) 66.1 (lexar)

BTW, the Oly M5-II looks like one of the top UHS-II cameras in write speeds that the site has tested..

OTOH, IR tests say the G7 performs worse with a UHS-II card than a UHS-I card: "According to Panasonic the G7 is UHS-II compatible, but we found buffer depths dropped and clearing times increased with our 280MB/s UHS-II SDHC card..."

The Lexar 1000X UHSII U3

I am using a lot of Lexar card for years . Never any problem. Looks good quality /price

My last for the Pana GX8 is Lexar Professional 1000X 64GB 150MB/s . looks good and giving the max of GX8 specially in 4K modes.
