A subject beaten to death: Rattlesnaking

Hi All,

We've discussed the "rattlesnaking" of aperture blades here many times. I've seen it occasionally on my M.Zuiko 45mm f/1.8 and my Leica 25mm f/1.4. The thing is, I've seen it very little. That is, until yesterday. Mind you, I've had both of these lenses for four years and an E-P5 body for 20 months.

I was out and about on a cloudy day in Matlacha, FL, an artist community on the gulf coast known for its outrageously colorful buildings and excellent ice cream shop (the key lime sorbet is to die for!).

My 25mm Leica was rattling away like it was ready to strike. I've never seen it behave this way. I am a very conservative user of the features on my E-P5 (A mode, exposure comp, ISO 200 mostly, IS off, 0-second anti shock, auto WB) and I've changed nothing recently. Yet, my beloved 25mm f/1.4 was very agitated in Matlacha.

Does anyone here have any thoughts about what might have started up this behavior? Maybe the bright overcast day? A setting I accidently bumped? The phase of the moon? Low tide?

A few images from my walk around this small community:

I don't know about the Panasonic lens and the E-P5, but the FTs lenses on my E-M1 make a lot of noise unless I turn Off - Flicker Reduction.
