Few Portraits: XF90 - XF56 APD and XF50-140

Recent shots using XF90 - XF56 APD and XF50-140. I am very pleased with the Bokeh from XF50-140. It has literary surpassed my expectation after reading all the negative review about its bokeh quality. Equally the bokeh quality from 56mm APD and XF90 is sublime.Comments welcomed...

Enjoy..

Bensherman.

I like your portraits, nice job.  If you had to pick just one of these lenses for these types of portraits, which would you choose?

Thanks for your comment, well appreciated.

XF50-140MM F2.8 would be it...It's versatile with prime lens optical quality. For planned shots 56mm f1.2 APD and XF90mm f2 will give you preferable perspective.

Nice set of images. Just curious, did you use eye detect focus?

Nice shots. I would give a lot more head room and not cut off the tops of the subject head.

There will be a time you may want a 8x10 print and you have no place to go when you shoot that tight. As you make larger prints it auto crops so to say.

Leave the room or take a safety shot with breathing room.

Very nice  What is that post-processing that adds spots of dust to the same location for most of the photos?  A little distracting, I think.

Indeed eye detect focus was used...I find it invaluable when taking pictures of kids. Coming from X-Pro1 AF system I find eye detect focus in X-T10 a revelation. Thanks for your generous comment.

Well spotted! That's sensor crud, or I'm a Dutchman (I'm cheating there a bit, though).

Excellent observation...admittedly I failed to notice dust spots above. I guess late night editing is to blame here, :-(... I was actually playing with Analog Efex Pro 2. Thanks for comment.

I had another look at Ben's pictures and don't agree, an old argument, the cut off parts of the head issue.

I would prefer a tighter crop since it changes the fov, prefer a more intimate view. Grab any glossy magazine the world has on offer and see how liberal the cropping goes.

To the OP: worth a re-visit!

Cropping has become very unorthodox these days and offer far more intimate appeal. I have seen loads of tightly cropped fashion shots with unequivocal charm. So there you go Mr Bensherman I find your cropping to be just fine. Lovely shots of beautiful kid.

Re: Few Portraits: XF90 - XF56 APD and XF50-140

I just came across your post while searching for info on the 90mm and 50-140mm lenses.  First of all, great shots.  I have a X-T10 and I'm considering the 90 or 50-140.  My question is how does these larger lenses handle on the X-T10?  Do see any drawbacks with either of the lenses on the X-T10?  Any info would help my decision and would be greatly appreciated.

Fantastic photos. You got some great shots!  My favorites are #2 (for the beautiful color and image) and #10 for the wonderful expression of the adorable young lady. Nice job!

You did realise that this was a 2001 thread, shot on Mavica with floppy drive??

Worth a re-warm anyway, if only for the "don't crop faces" debate ...
