sensationally sharp at F4

I've been debating on getting this unusual focal length at ~ US$800 for a very long time.  In a cropped sensor, it is more liked 115mm focal length on a FF.  And I have a 70-200mm F2.8.  Should I keep it?

After taken it out for a few days, it is a keeper.  It has good contrast at F1.8 with creamy oof, become sharper starting at around F2.0 with bubbles oof and sensationally sharp by F4.

i wish it was a 85mm, better AF and closer focusing distance.

Beautiful rendering but it doesn't look terribly sharp to me. Could be the Gallery view or motion blur though.

My god you must have interesting eyesight or an interesting screen - viewed at 100% on my 27" screen I can't see any blurring at all where it matters

Mine is crazy sharp, you see people's skin pores at around ƒ4

Mr Lee-

77 f2.8   is actually what is considered the 35mm format equivalent of 135 f4 in the 67 format.

That may have something to do with the choice.  Very nice rendering. Enjoy that.

You are right. The jpeg wasn't down res to 100%, no PS USM applied, and it was at f2.2.

The Slide view may have tax some of the sharpness, too.

That image is quite soft even at 100%... it could be the DPR upload though compressing it more.

One plus for the prime is its size compared to your 70-200mm, OP.

That's not really what one is going for with most female portraiture, however. I'd suggest using it wide open or f/2.8 maximum for close-up female portraiture.

However, for other subjects, the sharpness is to die for:
