Canon 24-70L f/2.8 II focus throw?

Hi guys,

I wonder if I could pick your brains...

Does the Canon 24-70L f/2.8 II have a long 150º focus throw? (I couldn't find any official figures and found that number along with 110º on the net) And... Is it easy (in your opinion) and smooth to manually focus?

Cheers,

Mark.

ANSWER:
Canon EF 24-70mm F2.8L II USM

The focus throw on the 24-70 f/2.8L II from infinity to .38 meter appears to be a little over 90 degrees. Maybe 100-110 degrees, tops.

Operation is smooth as silk with little drag.

Ken Rockwell first says it is about 120 degrees, but later in the review says it is about 110 degrees.  Ken Rockwell EF 24-70 II review

Aha! Thanks.

Hmm. 105º. I was hoping it was going to be 150. Oh well.

Thanks again.

Cheers,

Mark.

Thanks. May I ask what the manual focusing is like wide open at around 50mm and say, 1.5m from your subject? The reason I ask is that I have recently acquired a Sigma 50mm f/1.4 (which as I've just found out only has a 92º focus throw, so 15º less than the 24-70 II) and nailing focus with such a short throw with manual focus is quite a challenge. More of a challenge than I hoped it would be.

Cheers,

Mark.
