Canon SX710 (SX710 HS) - Still plagued with lens scratches and E32 errors?

Hello dpreview.com Forum members,

Does anyone have any knowledge about typical Canon camera plagues and the new SX710 (SX710 HS)?

I currently own a Canon SX260 HS which has the following dreaded and known issues:
1) Lens scratch due to protection curtain = http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3291476
2) E32 error (camera has not been dropped, has been stored in case, etc.)

I am very used to Canon cameras, and I like the "pocketable" cameras because I can easily have a camera on me - BUT these issues are a BIG DETERRENT from buying another Canon! It seems my Canon cameras only last about 2 to 3 years...

Does anyone know if the SX710 is susceptible to the same things?

Thank you in advance for your reply!

Re: Canon SX710 (SX710 HS) - Still plagued with lens scratches and E32 errors?

Despite the risk of lens scratches and E32 errors, I went ahead and picked up a new SX710 HS from eBay, brand new, for $209 shipped. Kinda risky purchase on several levels, but at least the eBay purchase worked out beautifully = excellent brand new camera, great eBay seller.

So far, so good with this SX710 HS. The SX710 HS is certainly different from my SX260 HS = one of the main differences is the manual flash popup switch. In some ways, the manual flash popup switch is an improvement from my SX260 HS - HOWEVER, there are shots (particularly when others are using my camera) which aren't so good because they aren't "photographers" and just turn on the camera, point, and shoot (with the flash locked down...) - when filling shadows with flash would have produced a much nicer and viewable shot.

If I encounter lens scratches and/or E32 errors, you can count on me to report back here with the bad news.  No news is good news...
