First m4/3 Camera - G7
2

Just bought my first m4/3 camera, the G7 with the 14-140mm lens. I normally shoot with a D600, but wanted something to use for family get-togethers. I'm still deciding if I want to keep it or not. here are a couple test images shot in raw and developed in LR.

What's holding you back from keeping it?

Just to early to tell yet. One thing I noticed right away is the build quality, not bad, but a little cheap feeling. And after processing FF 24mp images for a few years, it's really hard not to pixel peep and second guess yourself. I'm going to give it a MUCH better test this Saturday.

And for the other poster, I have not tried the 4k video yet.

You're part of the reason I bought the G7 in the first place, after seeing your work with it.

Hey, new M43 user also, about 6 months ago, long time Nikon user D300/D700. I don't own a point and shoot, always hated using them. Picked up a GM5 because I wanted something small I could take with me when I don't want to drag my heavy gear around. After a vacation I took in Jan decided to give it a try. I have to say the camera has exceeded my expectations. It's really turned into my main use camera, I'm falling back less and less on my other gear. For me I don't think it will replace my other gear, there are times it's a better fit for the job I'm doing, but have to say it would be hard for me to give up my little M43 camera now. I already started collecting lenses, 4, and picking up another lens next week :-). Get a little prime on that camera like the 45 1.8 to see it really shine.

I'm betting the more you use the G7, the more you'll like it. I love mine. I'm also an enthusiastic user of the 4K Photo mode for kids' sports. Be sure to give it a try. You might like it.

I took it for a good spin today. I was surprised at how sharp the 14-140mm was. Also surprised at how well the raw files responded in LR. Still not sure which way I'll go, but it's getting harder and harder to choose after today.

This last one was at 6400 iso with NO noise reduction in post.

Keep taking nice pictures like that and I think you may be convinced to stay with us.  I've been shooting in the dark tonight and I needed 20 second exposure and the G7 focused on the subject 20 feet away.  The guy next to me with his full frame Canon couldn't understand how I was getting focus and he wasn't.

Wow! Those should close the deal.

I used my G7 last night at a kids' baseball game, mostly under the lights. I was pleasantly surprised at the shots I got, using 4K photo, at ISO6400. G7 is the best camera I've owned. It continues to surprise  and please me.

4K at 6400? Not too many cameras out there that can do that!

I've been trying to decide between the Fuji X-T10 and this G7. But like I said earlier, it's getting harder and harder to decide.

If you do video the Fuji isn't in the conversation.  I could see the X-T10 and G7 coexisting. But you already have the D600.  I would say the G7 is more well rounded as a compliment to the D600.

I've never been into video, but I tried out the 4k burst mode today and pulled a frame out. Now that's a pretty cool feature.

I'd like to thank everyone for their input. Is this the standard in this forum? Some of the forums can get rather nasty on dpr.

Depends on the thread here. Some still get nasty and/or pedantic. Generally though people are fun (or funny) and helpful.

Glad you've tried the 4K photo. It's a useful feature and a lot of fun. The more you use it, the more you'll appreciate it.
