Is something wrong with my brand new 16-35mm f/4?

Hello All - Long-time lurker; first time poster here.

I just upgraded from a Canon 600D + Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 to a Canon 6D + Canon 16-35 f/4. Given the cost of the new body and lens, and all the great things I've heard about this lens, I was expecting a significant jump in image quality.

While I haven't had much time to play around with the new equipment, I did snap this one at the train station: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0p1dy7swpyr67fs/IMG_0002.CR2?dl=0

The picture looks quite soft to me. Does it look unusual to you guys? Are my expectations unrealistic? Maybe I'm not using the right settings?

I should note that I also use a B+W XS-Pro Clear MRC-Nano filter, but I'm told that shouldn't have any noticeable effects on IQ.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Will

You used all AF points and have no good control where the camera focuses. Judging by the photo, it focused very close regardless of what the activated AF points seem to indicate. The foreground is very sharp, the corners - too, and the background is not bad at all but not critically sharp.

Shoot with one AF point.

I agree with JACS. Looking at your EXIF at f9 you should have had a sharper picture if your focus point was more accurate.
