NX20 slow write times and shot to shot time

When I take a single raw file shot, it takes about 1-sec to write to the card, the controls lock up, and I can't take another shot until the camera finishes writing to the card.

I'm using a class 10 sandisk extreme card, any suggestions to speed up performance?

Did you just get it? the base firmware on the NX20 was painful. There was a fix released that will get you 3 or 4 shots taken in order.
I've been using it since it came out.. it is a touch painful at times. But the firmware upgrade does help.

I Tried updating to version 1.16 but the camera doesn't recognizeit. I put both files in the root direcory of the SD crd, go to set-up menu 3 and all it shows is device information no option to update the firmware

It's been a while. since I did a firmware update obvious for the NX20.

I can't recall if it is a put the zip file or put both files on the card.
You may want to try the one you didn't.
also just to make sure.. you did downloaded it from a Samsung site not a third party yes?

Samsung uses little compression for superior imaging and the RAW files are around 33MB, which is why they take a while to write. Sony compresses their RAW files, a NEX 7 file being about 24MB, giving faster write times, but deteriorating the image. You want a faster write time, use jpeg.

I figured it out, I had to put the unzipped folder with both files inside the root directory, write speeds improved, nowit looks like I can take a rw shot aprox every .5 second but after 3 shots it stops for about 2 seconds

That is normal for the camera. I usually put the Quick view on to 1 second. That way I can see the shot without moving, and usually I don't need to take that many shots in a row that fast.
In my normal usage, with either portraits or Landscapes it isn't needed. When I need a Burst I usually put it on a burst mode. You need to plan a little. It is the downside of it. Honestly though it is a good little camera. Served me well for many years.
