Success Again Today with Swallows in Flight
16

After yesterdays little outing I couldn't help to quickly drop into  the same spot again this afternoon while on my way home.
Anyway it was a lot quitter than yesterday but the Welcome Swallows did present themselves close by a few times and I managed a few keepers again.

This is getting addictive

Very nice. The first is brilliant. Red dot, or just EVF?

Red dot. The only one I got with EVF was the Fairy Martin on yesterdays post, not too far down. For these guyz the red dot is very handy but I prefer the EVF for bigger slower birds

Wonderful photos, Vass. I've found swallows to be one of the most challenging subjects to photograph given their characteristic erratic flight and ability to turn in an instant.  This makes the clarity of your shots all the more appreciated.

I think there's a red dot in my future, short money for such a useful tool.

Nice shots, the 2nd one really shows how these birds are built for speed.

Re: Success Again Today with Swallows in Flight

Thanks

I do find they fly a certain path a lot so it does help when I can predict where they will be flying in from. But at other times they can be all over the place.
The red dot does help but I wonder what the firmware 4.0 will be like with optical view simulation thing. This might be great for birds further away or mid range.

Re: "Getting addictie"? I'm not surprised

Hehe, maybe you need a red dot Geoffrey

As addictive as it gets I don't think doing this every day or every weekend will be practical terms of shutter actuations. I fired like 200 plus for each of those quick sessions.

So many shots just out of focus, out of focus or empty of swallows due to that sudden turn or change in direction

One from today

Went out again this arvo but unfortunately the clouds ruined what might have been a better day. There was sun for the first 10 minutes and did manage a shot before the clouds sent me packing.

Re: Success Again Today with Swallows in Flight

Very impressive!

Is this what you were using?: http://www.amazon.com/Olympus-V329200BU000-Dot-Sight-EE-1/dp/B00STR9K1G/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1443626759&sr=1-1&keywords=olympus+ee-1

Can you tell us how specifically you use it? Do you hold your eye up to it like you would the view finder? Or hold it at arms length? Inquiring minds. It sounds like you still miss a bunch of shots, right? So are you using autofocus? I imagine you need really really fast autofocus too?

This definitely looks like something I should add to my list.
