Samsung - what I dislike
2

As unfortunately the current speculation threads seem to have run out of fuel, I am quite convinced that to keep us entertained, somebody soon will start a thread about NX50 specs/delivery date.

So for me it is time to rant about the fact that I always seem to be unable to buy a Samsung body at a reasonable price. Having bought NX10, NX11, NX20, 2xNX30, NX3000 I`m sure not short of kit lenses as the body always would have cost me more than I paid for the kit. Sometimes the kit lens comes in handy as I donated the NX10 to a friend, the NX11 to my daughter and the NX3000 to my wife and the kit made a nice starter. But as I prefer my pancakes and the rest of my family nowadays, too I can now start to get the world`s biggest collection of Samsung kit lenses or just rant.

I wonder wheter Samsung does think that a kit including the 30mm pancake would not sell or whether the kit lenses are really cheaper to produce. I cannot immagine that the kit lenses are cheaper to produce - so why not update the 30mm with iFn button and offer them as kit? And what about recognizing the fact that the system is now old enough that some users have all the lenses and  just want a new body? What about bringing an ample supply of bodies at decent prices?

There was a bundle of NX300 and 45mm, wish they offer it with nx500. Or you could buy NX1 with S kit lens

It's the same everywhere. It doesn't matter which brand you choose, mostly camera and entry level kit zoom are cheaper than a naked camera.

That said, last year, I got my brand new NX30 without lens for around 50€ cheaper than the kits with the 18-55. Unfortunately there was no kit with the 16-50 PZ available at the time, so later I got myself a NX3000 with 16-50 for less than the lens alone and now I own a NX3000 I don't use...;)

You mention about the 30mm with an ifn button and whilst I think this might be a good idea, personally I've never been able to get used to the ifn button on other lenses. It seems like a good idea in theory but the button is in different places on different lenses so if you change lenses a lot, it can be hard to use it without looking.

I started to use it during winter as it was more convient than the buttons on the back of the cameras when wearing gloves.

The button is on a similar place on 10, 16, 20 and 45 lenses so I started to get used working with it. Pressing the non existing button on 30mm lens really was annoying so I more and more used the 20mm lens instead of the 30mm lens what is a pity as I really like the focal lenght and performance. I would not hasitate a second to buy another 30mm lens if it had iFn button. Of course this is a very personal opinion and as lot of users do not mind so my chances that Samsung sees enough demand to update it are poor.

It sounds to me like the 30 needs an update anyway. I don't have the 30 yet. Hoping we hear something this month about lenses as I've been holding back on both the 30 and the 50-200. Though my lens collection is growing faster than I thought it would.

Off topic but now I think I'll start to look at adding in flash to my work flow.

Re: Samsung - what I dislike

I came from using a nex 5t previously before I got my NX300 and I've only got the 30mm lens for a native lens, but I did use the 45mm with a iFn button for a few weeks. I didn't find it terribly useful and often forgot about it. I'm just wondering what is so useful about the iFn button that others miss so much? I guess I'm still feeling pretty spoiled with the few extra buttons and a decent function menu.

As I said, for me, when I am wearing gloves, it is easier work with iFn button and focus rang than work with the small buttons on the back of the camera. And I think it is because I use viewfinder most of the time.

If you press the function button on the camera, can you still adjust the settings using the focus ring? I know you can do this using the ifn lenses but haven't tried it with my 30mm yet.

My NX10 came with 30f2 lens and that was why I bought the kit.

Ahh, I missed the part about wearing gloves, thanks, that does make sense.

I just attempted this on my NX300 with the 30mm, turning the focus ring had no effect on the function menu items.

I agree with you there. It would be nice to have the option of buying the body with one or two choices from prime lenses. It would certainly tempt me to buy another one
