is it possible to manipulate the exifs ...

... so the pictures out of an nx500 get the exifs of a picture of an nx1 - so lightroom 5 could handle the photos ?

I don't know, but dxo optics had some issues that could be solved by faking the camera model.

Re: is it possible to manipulate the exifs ...

Hey there! First, sorry for bringing an old thread, but I guess that's better than creating repeated ones, right?

Have anyone succeeded on changing the model information on the exif in order to make it possible to work with the files? I've been using dxo photolab and giving a go on older shots, but it's not compatible with my NX3000 out of the box, I have tried changing the exif all the compatible models dxo say are compatible on the NX lineup, without success.

I'm changing only two fields on the exiftool GUI: "Model" and "exif:Model". Am I missing something, or maybe this procedure really doesn't work?

Thanks in advance!

I don't remember doing it with Samsung files specifically, but I've replaced one set of EXIF information from one Pentax camera with a set from a different Pentax model so's I could use the in-camera effects available in the second camera that weren't available in the first.

I used ExifTool https://exiftool.org/ from the Command Prompt in WIndows … a bit cryptic but very comprehensive. ExifGUI, if I remember correctly, only presents a subset of the EXIF tags for editing, so whilst good at what it does may not be the tool for this job.

I'm fairly sure there's rather more to it than just two fields … I did a "bulk" copy and paste to make sure I copied everything

I don't use dxo photolab so can't help with that aspect of things.

Thanks for the answer. I actually tried of exiftool first usind command prompt, but didn't actually manage. Then I tried the GUI of exiftool. I guess I should try again the command way.

So yeah.. no deal :-(. The exif seems to be changed, the .srw keeps showing the thumbnail and being being possible to be opened on windows viewer, and showing the new model name on the exif window.

But once trying to open the file in photolab, it doesn't success do open. It's bizarre, as I didn't change any other data on the exif, except the camera model.

The EXIF and the thumbnail are two different entities, the thumbnail needs to be replaced separately. This can also be performed with ExifTool.

Didn't realise you were trying to manipulate an .SRW file … I've never tried … there may be other factors involved.

You could try asking on the ExifTool forum, someone else may have accomplished the task.

the adobe dng file conversion program is free to download and use from the adobe web-site (last I heard, anyway)

That won't help. Photolab won't open a DNG file if it's from an unsupported camera. I have this same issue with some of my Samsung files.

here's a thread on the DxO boards.

Basically you can convert to TIFF and open them that way, however alot of the advanced features of DxO photolab won't be available, since they are very specific to the sensor in the camera (and also the lens)
