Nice.  The more I see from this lens the more I want it.

Re: Fuji XF 90mm Test Shots

KurtHoyle,

I love these kind of shots and I agree that your first is particularly good.

The bokeh and subject separation obtainable with this kind of lens is so attractive, it is definitely on my 'wish list.

When I do this kind of photography I often use manual focusing so, assuming you do too, could I go slightly off-topic and ask you if you have experienced any problems with manual focus with this lens when wide-open? I have several Fujifilm primes and they all show a jumpiness when first reversing the direction of turn of the focusing ring manually. The 23mm F/1.4 is particularly badly affected and the 35mm F/1.4 a little less so. The 14mm and 60mm are affected too but not so badly.

If you, or anyone else, is interested I started a discussion on this here:

http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/54122025

and there is another, more recent discussion here:

http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/56444818

I would be very interested in your experiences before I actually buy the 90mm lens!

Thanks,

Sparky

Thank you  I'm just about to leave work so I'll test it when I get home. I've had a couple of issues where the lens has autofocussed on nothing resulting in a blurry shot. I'll try the manual focus when I get home and let you know.

Cheers

I've just tested this with my 23mm and my 90mm on my X-T1 and have no issues with manual focus at all. No jumpiness, just smooth steady movements. I recently had the sensor replaced on my X-T1 just before the 1 year warranty ran out so not sure if this would have fixed things?

Thank you for taking time out to do this checking. It's good to hear that your 90mm is not affected. The problem seems to be one that affects only certain copies of the lenses, other people have reported, like you, that their 23mm etc are not affected.

I recently had the sensor replaced on my X-T1 just before the 1 year warranty ran out so not sure if this would have fixed things?

Dunno. It's hard to see how the sensor would affect the focusing in quite that way but then I don't really understand how the contrast-detect and phase-detect systems work in combination on the camera anyway.

Thanks again.

KurtHoyle's suggestion that the sensor might be involved in the 'focus jumping' problem experienced by myself and others (but not his 90mm lens) has prompted me to start a new thread on this topic here:

Love'em both!

The background on the first look pitch black, is that one a SOOC Jpeg as well?

Edit: I'm at work using the mobile version of the site on my phone, so there's a chance I'm literally not seeing the full picture or similar
