Just got a Galaxy NX

I have big Nikon gear for my professional work, and I really love my little Samsung NX1000 for my casual photography.  I really thought the idea of the Galaxy NX was great when it came out, if not the price.  Well I had the opportunity to get an NX for 320 dollars so I gave it a shot.

First impression - wow, it's kind of big, to the point where it might be a deal-breaker.  It's not as big as a full-frame SLR, but it's still too big to shove into a pocket in a pinch.  I guess it's raison d'etre is to put a SIM card in it and use the connectivity, but I guess when it comes down to it, I don't know if I'll really use it.

I think I'll use it for a while, but I think I'll probably sell it and get an NX500 which is probably more of what I really want out of this.

Your thoughts are the same as mine. The nx500 might be more of what you wanted. The only killer is that price might still be a little on the high side right now.

Keep looking. Deals have popped up before and we will see them again. But as you realize already the galaxy is great but if you want to go light it would best to keep looking.

Wow, 320 dollars is a fantastic price!
Agree the galaxy NX is big but in terms of IQ I found it much better than the nx1000 I had before.

I've been sniffing around Samsung used and discounted cameras for a while now... and its seemed strange to me how well this particular model (Galaxy NX) has held up in value... Must be something special about it.

Compared to the NX 30 which seems to be $300 -$350 commonly these days.

To be honest, if you are going to use back LCD for composing and shooting you might as well use the biggest one, seriusly, filming video with GNX is so much more pleasant than essentially anything else, it's like having an external monitor.

I think there is. I bought one and liked it so much I bought another. I have lots of Nikon gear and Samsung gear and I use the Galaxy NX all the time. I've listed the reasons a number of times on this forum but here's a list of some cools things for you:

It has a built-in Android tablet. And not a crappy one. That means it has useful wifi, cell capability, you can install any number of apps to do any number of things. I can shoot Raw files and send them right to my Dropbox account without need for a computer. I can edit files in my app of choice and post JPEG versions online immediately.  And to get more geeky but less photo centric: I can use the Bluetooth to listen to music while out shooting, I can make Skype calls, check emails, browse the Internet on a useful LCD if necessary...

Back to photo centric usefulness:

Nice, big LCD

Built-in storage so I can still shoot if I forget a memory card (sadly, it happens to all of us at some point)

Focus peaking on all the time. The Galaxy NX is my cam of choice for using my legacy MF Nikon lenses.

voice control for reduced camera vibrations. Put the GNX on a tripod and say the word "shoot" and it takes a shot. No need to touch the shutter, or a cable release, or a smartphone, or a third party device. Excellent for macro.

That's enough for today. I really wish Samsung would upgrade the GNX with the new 28mp sensor, more storage etc.

Agree completely! The only thing it's lacking for me is 4k. And it'd be nice if samsung could upgrade the OS once in a while, although realistically speaking android 4.2 feels just as fast as 5.1 on my galaxy s6.
Imagine the nx1 with all the capabilities of the GNX..
