Canon G11 Using Apple's New PHOTO Program--Not iPhoto

Hi--
I have used a Canon G11 for several years and am very satisfied with it.
In the last few months, Apple discontinued its iPhoto program, which was easy to use with the G11, and has 'upgraded' to what it calls Photo.

My practice until now has been to upload photos directly from the G11 to iPhoto.  If a photo needs post-processing, it has been very easy to accomplish using Photoshop Elements.
Since the change to Photo, it is still simple to upload photos to Photo, but it is almost impossible for me to get them to my images files and from there into Photoshop Elements.  I have turned the air blue and all but pulled my hair out trying to achieve this.

Any advice?  I'll try just about anything.

Thanks!

With the Yosemite OS, Photos  does not support third party photo editors. ( for reasons only Apple can answer) . One work around that I read is to export the image as a TIFF to the desktop, import it into PSE. Not sure if this works, as I'm still using Aperture.

apple did say in the next OS---El Capitan, third party editors will be supported.
