G11 Upgrade Time

Finally tucked enough aside to replace my G11.  A nice Camera but too slow on focus and recording image in social environments.  Looking at G16 due to all the accessible controls and eye site.  Bright beaches and noon time in Texas makes using screens for control a real challenge without a viewing hood.  I frequently use and external flash to get better images in restaurants and apartment parties.

I had the G16 and the X30, X30 is better (IQ, DR, ergonomics etc.) and the EVF is superb, just check it out before getting the G16. G16 is a great camera though, make no mistake, but the X30 has the edge in many areas.

Re: G11 Upgrade Time

I had a G9 and G12. Recently purchased the G16 and found the upgrade to the Digic 6 processor fixed all of the speed issues that I used to complain about. I don't use WiFi so can't comment about it's implementation. Ergonomics still feel the best to me of any advanced compact (fast, confident handling without accidentally hitting buttons for me) and the camera is pocket-able in all but tight jeans or shirt pocket. The much maligned OVF works very well when you need it. IQ is great if not using high ISO and going above 16" X 20" prints. Customization of buttons, menus etc seems endless and makes shooting a pleasure. The newer downloadable DPP 3.14.48 (8/20/15) supporting the G16 works great for both JPEG and RAW post processing. Try all the competitors you can. I found the G16 holds it's own very well and my familiarity with it led me to continue with the G series.

Re: G11 Upgrade Time

Looks nice wish it had wireless connection to compare.  Will have to dig deeper, I haven't mixed Manufacturers since I moved away from Olympus 8080 to Canon SLR when I got tired of waiting on Pentax to go digital.

Re: G11 Upgrade Time

I did actually enjoy the wifi functionality of the X30, nice way to get photos onto the phone for sharing.

G16 arrived during the night on front porch. One thing noted while ensuring not damage during shipping, the write time to card is much faster than my copy of the G11. Now the fun begins comparing to M3 under adverse conditions.  Two different environments to be met: Club times with lots of faces for M3 and social/dinner times for C16 or maybe just the M3.
