Striated Pardalote & Musk Lorikeet
3

Hi I was in the East Parklands the other day and witnessed a raid by two Musk Lorikeets on the nesting Hollow that a pair of Striated Pardalotes had been using for a couple of years. The Lorikeets have statred expanding the entrance to suit themselves, much to the dismay of the Pardalotes. The Tree is a Dutch Elm one of a band of remaining specimens in the area. The timber is a lot softer then the surrounding Eucalypts so the parrots love he area.

All taken with the GH4 & 35-100 F2,8 and heavily cropped

striated  pardalote

these are3 smaller than a house sparrow & normally move very fast

This is the normal size nesting hollow for the area

This was the hole that the Musk Lorikeets decided to take over from the pardalotes

Over cast day so I upped the exposure compensation to get some detail in the shadows

Hope you enjoy them

Lew

I like the framing of the first two, though on my screen the images look a little soft or out of focus? Beautiful little birds, well done.

Great shots, I had no idea they nested in hollows; I'll keep a sharp lookout the next time I walk through the mangroves where I spotted a few of them. I can't get within a cooee of the adults around here; the best I could do was to get within 30 feet of this chick.
