Panasonic 14-140mm

Hi, this may not be the place to raise this matter, but I hope someone may respond or direct me to a more appropriate thread.

My question is relating to the Pan 14-140 on amazon.uk showing for sale at £389. This is fine except it also shows a newer model for £523. I have checked the tech specs for both and they seem exactly the same.

Can somebody explain the difference in price to me, if any? Both are f3.5-5.6.

I am researching this lens and very close to purchasing it. Thank you in advance.

The older model should be f/4.0 - f/5.8. They may have wrong specs.

The older (f4.0 - f/5.8) has some gray color. The newer version seems to be cheaper, although considered optically better, faster (aperture-wise) and lighter. Some people may have reported some problems with the newer lens (OIS?), and I am not sure does it have "stepless" aperture control like the older version. This is useful for video.

To your question, it seems to be the same lens, but I cannot answer your question (and cannot withdraw this useless post).

I've had a look on Amazon and the cheaper one is indeed the f3.5.  They may be releasing a re-skinned 'matte' version soon, hence the price drop.

An excellent price for the lens.  It's a great kit lens.

Here is a link to the original and v.II lenses on B&H: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=panasonic+14-140&N=0

v.II is considerably lighter and more expensive (at B&H), and somewhat smaller and faster at 14mm. It has the newer IOS system and takes 58mm filter instead of 62mm. I think the consensus is that v.II is considerably better for still photography, but may exhibit shutter shock at certain mechanical shutter speeds (potentially 1/60 to 1/250???). Also, some report that it can exhibit jitters in handheld video.

I like my v.II a lot for stills.

They re skinned the 14-140 MK2 and 14-42 MK2 to match the G7 and GX8. 45-150 got the same treatment I think.
