Not sure why everyone's dismissing the 24-105 STM. STM lenses work brilliantly on the 6D. Quick accurate consistent quiet af. The only thing you miss on the 6D is hybrid video af. The op mentions nothing about video. Everything else is all win. It's not as if you're paying more for the STM.

Not everything else - the STM lens is f/5.6 at the long end so it's a stop slower than the 24-105L. That's a stop less ability to blur the background or reduce the depth of field.

The 24-105L is a great lens for street photos on a 6D. The constant aperture is worth it. Personally, I wouldn't carry anything heavier than this lens, and I use fast primes for indoor, low light. AF is very fast and accurate on the 24-105L. The lens works great on the 6D.

The F2.8 lenses are great for indoor events where there is enough light for F2.8. The optics are superior on the Canon 24-70F2.8II, but the lens is heavier than I want, and it costs a lot. It is probably worth it, if you can get by with the range, size and weight.

I would still rather use the 24-105L if the major use would benefit from the range. I won't spend the cost of admission of the F2.8 Canon, but that is a personal decision. I would rather buy a new laptop right now.

Re: Lens for streetlife Canon 24-105 STM vs Canon 24-70/4L vs Tamron 24-70/2.8VC

Hi guys,

In the end I have made my purchase.

I dismiss all zoom options and go for Canon 100mm f/2.0 USM. I gather my street squad of 40/2.8 pancake, 50/1.8 and the 100/2. If I can raise my budget further, I may replace the pancake with 35/2IS or 28/2.8IS. But it will be the story of future.

The only downside of my selection is the delay time whenever I have to exchange lenses on street. For those candid hunting moment, this delay can be critical loss. However I have spent the last week on my zoom 24-85USM to see if I can limit that exchange time. The answer is Yes, I can do it with my prediction. In other words, I determine the situation before mounting a lens. For example, I will walk into small streets with the Pancake. When I am on my motorbike and have to stop to take photos, the 100/2 will be mounted. The 50mm is the safe choice for both situations. For a crowded area, 50mm is the best solution for candid close portrait while still keeping the background around my subject. The 24-85 can provide zoom choice as a backup plan. Overall, I am confident that my prediction will reduce the need to change lenses on streets.

I want to say thanks to you guys who shared alot helpful information. I hope I can produce good photos to prove that I worth your support!
