Great wide angle prime at a reasonable price

I have been using this lens for quite some time. I bought just after it came available, because at that time it was the most affordable 24mm prime for Canon full frame camera's. Since then, the Sigma 24mm f1.4 ART has entered the market and you would probably look at that lens first.

There is one feature that puzzled me at first, but has proved of great value: the image stabilization. If you are inside and the lighting conditions are suboptimal (churches for instance), the IS has proven its value. It enables you to keep the ISO settings down and still get a proper exposure because you can have much slower shutter speeds hand held. It works perfectly.

The colors and sharpness of this lens are fine. You can get better colour separation and microcontrast and sharpness with much more expensive and larger lenses.

If you are a prime shooter, this line of lenses of Canon has one selling point: it is small and weighs not much, while being build sturdy enough. The better lenses are all more voluminous and heavier.

It is one of those lenses that does not attract much attention but is a joy to use every day. Canon has quite a catalogue of those, and more often than not prove to be a better value for money than their L lens equivalents.

I know what you mean.  I have the Canon 28IS and this lens is sharp, works well at museums/churches, very portable and not very expensive.  It holds its own against my L lenses.

I have a 35 f2.  Is the 24 too close to the 35 that I should be looking for a wider lens?  Thanks for the help!!

My personal opinion is that 24mm is not too close to the 35mm FL. I would consider a 28mm lens to be too close, however. YMMV.

Great lens but it's questionable if the price is reasonable, it's pretty expensive.  I have the Mk1 24mm which often is a bargain buy.  Good enough to beat my 17-40 L at 24mm.
