330 HS Battery Problem

I bought a refurbished 330 HS from Canon in late Nov. 2014.  Love the camera, but I am suddenly experiencing a battery problem.  I was unable to turn the camera on and received a "charge battery" message which did not concern me at the time.  However, I did change to another fully charged battery and within a day or two got the same message.  I  find it hard to believe that two batteries would fail at the same time.  Has anyone else had this problem?  I do not want to buy new batteries if it is the camera that is at fault.  Help please?

There is a recall by canon on some of the 330 due to poor battery connection problem.  All they do by all accounts is either increase the tension on the brass connectors inside the camera or use packing to push the battery in further.

You should check the tension on the spring terminals by verifying how much tension there is before the little hook clips behind the battery when you push it in, and if its not enough then use one of the methods I mentioned to increase it.

Also, clean the battery and camera terminals with a cotton bud and some electrical cleaner.  If you haven't got that then metho will do.

Re: 330 HS Battery Problem

You could test each battery independent of the camera, using a multimeter.

Buy the generic battery that I mentioned when I solved this problem. Don't send the camera back. Search my name and this topic and your problems will be gone.

The depth of the contacts on the generic battery are different from Canon's. Shame on Canon for using a cob job to attempt to fix this.

They were too cheap to reengineer the battery.

Re: 330 HS Battery Problem - send it to canon to get it fixed

Hi,

I had a battery problem too. Sent it to canon under warranty got it back in around 3-4 weeks, completely fixed, not a problem since in over 12 months. There was a recall see link: https://www.canon.com.au/en-AU/Personal/Support-Help/Support-News/Service-Notices/Canon-IXUS-255-HS.

If you don't get it fixed it will probably get worse mine wouldn't even switch on anymore.

Cheers

Steve.
