Samsung galaxy S5 does 98% of my shooting right now

Since using this 2014 "flagship", most of my -serious- gear stays at home -most of the time-.

To me it is: fun! easy to use! cheap (-ly priced)! delivering me news. letting me talk. letting me listen. letting me connect (ok, I borrowed this one ;). letting me email. making me surf. doing translations. super wearable. water and dustproff (somewhat). almost free (I get a new one every 2nd year for not much).

The s5 takes bluish pics. Very noticeable compared to the iPhone 6.

Here is another one, handheld taken with ambient light, straight out of the phone no processing applied.

If he finds this flower bluish, then he must be wearing blue tainted glasses.

Again, thanks a lot for posting! I'm very pleased with the s5 myself. Water and dustproofing (some) is a bonus too!

You forgot a point to your post. 99% of pics taken on a phone are viewed only on a phone so the pixel count difference is completely moot. Plus, just like p&s digicams, you get diminishing returns on packing a tiny sensor with a tiny lens into a device.

I forgot to mention the s5 has heavy handed detail smearing for high iso. I phone 6 leaves in a good mix of detail and grain in comparison.

Wow! wow!, you have personally run a worldwide survey and it does point to your 99%, right?

It would be really moot if you iPhone guys view your pics only on your iWatch!

Look, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, just show us how detailed your iPhone pics are at 100% crop.

Here is one of mine.

Great post! Again thanks!

BTW I printed lots of the s5 pics a-3 and A4. Some are hanging on my wall, only camerageeks know the difference compared to m43 (EM10) shots or 2/3 shots (eg fuji). IQ compares very favourably with my 1/2.3 sensors.

You realize "100%" view is extremely relative to the screen used, right? My 9 year old computer  screen vs. My high res tab s 8 in my hand now shows 100% very different. My tablet views it much smaller than a 96 ppi desktop screen! 100% view is a view for measurebators only!

Here is one of mine.

Your line of argument is touching the ridicule. 9 yr old computer screen? Wow, now I know why you think your 8mp camera is better.

As I said, if your pics are viewed on iWatch, then you may even need 3 mp camera, but many of us do view our photos on our latest model monitors and some even get them printed large as pointed out by perry rhodan.

Also 100%, do you have photoshop on your PC? just show us your 100% crop or admit it cannot match the S5 pics, end of the story.

Look mate that discussion ends here, I down want to waste any more of my time, adios, enjoy your iPhone.

Here is one of mine.

Re: Samsung galaxy S5 does 98% of my shooting right now

Whilst I'm not sure whether the s5 takes better photos than the iphone 6 I am getting a bit fed up of this megapixel race.

Sure there are some people who would make large prints of their pictures, or want to crop a lot, but do people have monitors or screens that can display more than 4k, as that's roughly what an 8 mp sensor can deliver? I'd much rather camera manufacturers focused their efforts on quality rather than sheer number of megapixels.

I own the samsung s6, and whilst I'm quite pleased about the quality of the pictures, a sensor that size struggles to resolve that level of detail.  In fact, in all but the best light if you zoom in to 100% you will see smudging and blurring.

So I'm all for keeping the number of megapixels at 8mp (and I haven't used an iphone in 3 years)
