Very nice photos. I presume that you use a flash or strobe?

Re: Random Macro's (60mm f2.8)

Hello Vass,

Beautiful insects, most of which I haven't seen before. Where did you photograph these?

My favorites are those where the entire insect is in focus (within the DOF), such as Pinara Moth #2 and Uknown (guessing juvenile shield bug of something).

I assume in the others, you want to emphasize the head, or other part of the insect. But as with flowers, which is my interest, I find it more pleasing to view the entire object within the DOF.

Nonetheless, superb macro work, IMO!

Thanks

All on the outskirts of Sydney, Australia.
I take a mix bag of shots, infact I probably shoot every individual insect in different compositions and focus. Some I like to have the whole insect in focus, some the eyes, the whole head etc etc.

You either toke those in low light or at night, or you used too strong flash

Try to get to use a diffuser to even the light so you get the background as well lighten up.

Many likes to see the environment where the animal is living or something from their point of view.

The last 4 are daytime shots the ones before that are all night time. (due to having no time to go out in the day when I took these) Diffuser was used but it won't help for the night shots with plenty of empty space around. I can do it by moving the subject to more filled structure but it goes against in my beliefs in leaving them alone.
