Optical Image Stabilization System - how useful is it ?

I was reading the Xiaomi Note2 review here;

http://connect.dpreview.com/products/xiaomi/mobilephones/xiaomi_redminote2

Just wondering if any of you on this focus have first hand experience with the benefits of an Optical Image Stabilization System on your phone camera ?
I have a Samsung Galaxy A5. I am now aware that it has this function but it takes excellent photos.

Since Xiaomi only sell online, I cannot check a demo model.

It works nicely on my LG G2.

Re: Optical Image Stabilization System - how useful is it ?

I've had both sensor stabilized and lens stabilized cameras over the years, and have always appreciated the extra couple of stops they bring to the table. With the small sensors in cell phones, the only way to get cleaner images is to use a lower ISO.

As to the effectiveness on cell phones specifically, my G4 is the only stabilized phone that I have had so far. I don't believe the function can be turned off, so it is difficult to say how much benefit it provides.
