5D3 sensor? problem.
1

Hi all, Last weekend I took a 360 deg panorama and on processing the files discovered two frames had the partial magenta coloring. Both affected frames appeared identical and were taken 3 seconds apart. I have included the preceding frame as a reference.

The sun would have been at the top of the left hand edge on the affected frame.

The 5D3 has done 35k frames and I was using a 24 105L lens - 2 yrs old and manual exposure. I have not had this problem before and fired off another 73 frames without incident. Fxif intact

Any comments. Thanks Allan

Looks very odd. I would blame memory card contacts but their are typically some raster effects from row & coluum read/write errors. This is more like an RGB channel loss.

These don't happen to be incamera JPEGs?

Re: 5D3 sensor? problem.

You are probably missing the green channel in RAW. Does not look good.

Hi Phil and J A C S,

Thanks for your comments.

I was shooting RAW and the faulty frames could be viewed on the LCD so not a card > PC problem. I should have checked all the frames before I left the site!

There does seem to be a problem with the green channel but with the tools I have I can't get my head around it. Looks like I will have to contact Canon.

If you post the RAWs, people having Rawdigger can view the RAW file. Not that this would fix the problem...

Hi all,

Here is a link to an affected RAW file ...

I contacted Canon (New Zealand) and the tech said 'Clear all camera settings' and see if the problem still occurs. He wasn't interested in looking at the RAW file. We shall see.

Re: 5D3 sensor? problem.

What is barely visible here but quite apparent once you download and view the file in an editor is at the extreme bottom of the frame where it appears the shutter did not close/open/whatever fully.

The file contains damaged raw data, and more - the embedded JPEG contains same artifacts.

This happened right in the imaging path in the camera. Red and Blue channels are in fact greens (see the raw channel histograms on a cloud), channels are multiplexed in the wrong way because the synchronization of the sensor read-out was messed up. A quick fix would be to change the RGBG pattern in raw decoder.

You can see that 2 green channels, instead of being very similar, a quite different; while Red and Blue channels are quite similar, which is typical if they would be green channels.

At the very bottom of the frame the sync problem is quite evident, it contains garbage, including on the embedded JPEG (here it is, download and look at the very bottom at 100%)
