Samsung NX10 still good?

As the title says really, does the Nx10 still produce good images even at high iso for its age?

Baring in mind I will be buying one fo £98 with kit lens tomorrow...

No, but the kit lens may be worth £98

Re: Samsung NX10 still good?

It is still good at low ISO (as any other camera), but of course modern ones will give far better IQ. 20-50 lens cost 50-100$ from country to country, so I guess its nice to have a camera (which is not that bad tbh) for another 50. At least you can give it to your gf or kids and teach them how to make a great photos without any risk to destroy expensive camera.

Three old samples, jpeg from the camera, with the basic lens kit (18-55 without i-function).

Iso 200, 800 and 1600 for the last one.

Not too ugly for an "old" gear...

Hi there!

Just last month I found myself an NX10, for slightly more than yours - £110 body and 18/55 kit lens, 6 month warranty - as an alternative to the NX3000, for occasions needing a viewfinder!

Certainly can't match today's best sensors at the top end of the ISO range, but plenty good enough for me at up to 400 or 800. I accidentally nudged the ISO button up to 3200 one time, so can show you this (full JPG, as produced by the camera)....

(Shot with the 16/50 PZ, for whatever difference that may make!)

Using the RAW file in Lightroom, even the noise in the shadows cleans up reasonably well - though your opinion of that may depend on how you want to use the image? Here's one corner of the noise-reduced JPG....

Perhaps the answer is to consider what your eventual package may look like? If intending to build up a collection of lenses around whichever camera you buy, then maybe go for something newer - but as a standone, or with just an extra optic or two, I'd say it represents remarkable value!

Peter

PS With reviews, it's often revealing to also check the one for the replacement model - as new features are often put into the context of previous failings. Thus, "The NX11 is a modest upgrade of last year’s NX10, with a revised handgrip, new panoramic mode, additional 1:1 and 16:9 ratios, and the incorportaion of i-Function capability, first seen on the NX100."

From...

(Note his comment - repeating one re the NX10 - about turning on the start-up dust removal feature - probably worth doing, although it does slow one down a little)

In fact the NX10 got its own panorama feature added to the Scene mode list in a firmware update, and also (with lenses which have the requisite button) the i-Function capability.

Give us a shout if needed, but for details if yours isn't up to at least version 1.30 look here....

Re: Samsung NX10 still good?

Still a great camera. I use it up to ISO 800 very often. I shoot RAW always and the biggest difference for me was actually upgrading to Lightroom 5, I found the noise reduction tool much improved in 5 when applied to NX10 RAWs so I don't really mind using ISO 800 now and sometimes will use 1600. However, it depends on the situation: some of my recent shots in an aquarium were all terrible because of the very low light levels. I often find just removing the chroma noise (the horrible colourful noise) is fine as luminance noise is quite acceptable to me in many situations.

Lack of budget means I will continue to use my NX10 and NX100 (same sensor). I'd love to upgrade but my main aim there would probably be faster autofocus (I have a toddler).

All the shots on my flickr and 500px are with these cameras so you can take a look, although being landscapes they're mostly at low ISO. High ISO shots are mostly family shots which I don't share online. ... just looked through what I have online I think this is my only 1600 ISO shot: https://flic.kr/p/nz23h8

And this my only ISO 800 shot:

Re: Samsung NX10 still good?

No, with every new model that's released existing models loose 20% of image quality ...

Seriously, the NX10 takes perfectly good photos in good light, or at low ISO on a tripod at night. It's not going to win technical awards, and it depends a bit on what you shoot and what camera you use now, but at that price it's well worth it, in my opinion.

I took around 10,000 photos with mine, and it's still going strong with a friend.

Re: Samsung NX10 still good? - YES !

Give your attention not to people, they say "old" cameras are bad - I bet my grandfather made with his old KODAK camera better photos than these with the newest cameras

NX10 is a GOOD camera ... look at my pictures ... latest pictures from yesterday.
