Some wedding shots with my 40-150mm
12

A few weeks ago I attended the wedding of the daughter of some very good friends who is like a niece to me. I'm an architect, not a pro photographer, and shoot for personal enjoyment at events like this. They had a slew of pro-photographers there swarming around the couple and, while they were outside the church shooting, I took my E-M1 and 40-150 out and stood back from them and took a few shots. I was very happy with them and they way they came out and will post a few here for you to see. I think that the lens is stunning.

I was about 20ft away down on the sidewalk when I took these I'm posting.

I left my Nikon D810 at home due to bulk and weight and flying to the wedding. Overall I was very happy with the results but my D810 would have preformed better in the dark church.

I shot between the photographers that were buzzing around them. They took a few questioning glances at me but, this beautiful young woman is like a niece to me and I figured that I could stand in the street and take photos as long as I didn't get in their way.

Certainly a nice couple and, I think, wonderful performance from me E-M1 and 40-150mm

Good job, Alan!

Nice subdued lighting, nice tones, and nice use of B&W in the signature shot.

AND some very nice expressions and compositions to make pleasant memories for the couple and their families and friends.

Top-notch work. They look super-happy, not stiff or self-conscious.

Liking this lens a lot, even if it's still quite new to me.

Cheers,

Rick

Thanks Rick,

I really like the lens and have had some nice results with it. I am just not fond of the big, bulky retractable hood. I would much rather have a more typical, slim, reversible one.

Re: Some wedding shots with my 40-150mm

I think that is really good pictures you got! The only thing that slightly disturbs me in the shots is the somewhat nervous bokeh in the tree leaves behind them. Maybe the intensity can be lowered in post by toning the bright spots down somewhat?

I've seen this nervousness before with the Oly 40-150 in a few pictures. I don't know if it always is the same or only comes at certain focal lengths, if so then choosing another focal length could maybe remedy that in the future.

Below is my only wedding shot. Snapped it when I just walked by (they where in a public park) with my small compact Sony RX100 when the bridal pair suddenly seemed to forget who they should pose for.

Re: Good job, Alan!

They are really nice photos. Let use know what the happy couple think of them. Especially compared to what they, or their parents, paid for.
