No wonder everyone on the m4/3 forum is ripping on the GX8 for being too big.

The DSLM technology has a parallel with computers. When computers were out bold declarations for "paperless" offices were made. When computers became widely-used the ability to create documents (for the printers to print) became exponentially large. Now, offices are flooded with computer-made document printouts. When DSLMs were out claims of "this is a miniaturisation of a DSLR" were made. Now that DSLMs are everywhere manufacturers are starting to enlarge them in order to handle better with large bright lenses etc. Funny enough, some of them now are perhaps larger than some DSLRs.

I don't know how the IQ compares to my k-01, but I am sure it's got some tech in there that Pentax engineers probably don't even understand. I may consider this camera to put in the stable.

As soon as Panasonic engineers understand how a pentaprism works, i'll consider one too!

I think that was true for the '90s. Printing has been on the slide for a while now. If for no other reason than it is too slow. You have to deliver paper - pdfs can be emailed.

I'm pretty sure everyone in the mirrorless industry knew the larger cameras were coming. They just didn't have the tech to compete with DSLRs at first, so they had to play the compact angle. I think one of the potential beauties of mirrorless is that you can have both a compact body for travel and a pro body for features and bigger lenses, yet it all revolves around a single mount. We aren't quite there yet, but it will come.

I get a lot of printed stuff from people I'm glad don't have my email address.

Re: K-01 vs GX8

I love my K-01 for the size, despite it being irrelevant.

It's too big to pocket so the sleight size advantage doesn't ad any convenience or change the usage profile in any way but I still enjoy using it more, for some reason.

With a DA21 on the K-01, I have almost the perfect camera for my needs.  When I go on vacation, I take a whole bunch of camera stuff and end up using only the K-01/DA21L.  Av mode, f=5.6, point, shoot, enjoy sparkling photographs...

Qs1 is a little wonder but nowhere close to IQ to an APS-C DSLM, I'm afraid. The GR has indeed excellent IQ all the way to ISO heights but it's not a DSLM.

That's impressive. A GM1 and telescopic kit zoom (14-42ish) might make an interesting Q alternative...

well literally...

DSLM = Digital Single Lens Mirrorless

and the GR fits the bill!

But there's no zoom on it...

Yep, you can have it with a telescopic zoom too.

Well, using the same convention that 'DSLR' always implies interchangeable lens capability, DSLM does too. GR is a compact camera, again, by convention. Unless you would like to complicate it by adding 'ILC', DSLM ILC, that is.

See, they are brothers!

For a APS-C, HQ image, K-mount camera, pentax k01 is not that BIG at all. My hands don't feel it is BIG, btw I have small hands. when I put 18-135mm lens on k01 and took it out, the people in parks and streets often surprised : you have a such a small camera and BIG lens!

Pentax could easily make k01 more useful by putting a bigger buffer in it to let people shoot RAW & not wait for 2 seconds for writing one image to SD; adding a O/E view finder, because the LCD is too reflective under sun-shining.

Pentax might never think people would take k01 seriously, but like to have a high-fashion toy. However, if I travel for thousands miles away from home for one/two months, I need a complementary camera to k5iis, I would take k01 with me, definitely NOT ks2.
