Love these little fellows. No C&C from me except to say, shoot them again when the sun is up.

Well done

These birds are so small and fast moving that getting shots like these takes some doing.

can you pleeeeease let me know how you are able to capture these wee things on 'film'?

Do you have them around your house? Where you work... ?

The only place I have seen these is in the bush and they are sooo darn skittish..

Go to where they hang out.

Be patient.

Enjoy.

You just have to learn your spots where you see them and sit very still and be patient. I don't use a hide or anything but camo clothes. Once you learn their behaviour its not to hard to work out what they are doing and where they are going. I capture them everywhere from parks, along river banks to the bush. I started capturing them mainly in my backyard initially with FZ18 (see my flickr and go to FZ18 birds) but they don't like to come often now as too many cats are around the last few years.

Most important don't make fast moves around them, it's easier said then done ofcourse because they keep hopping and flying like they have ants in their pants but this is a big key to getting close, patience and smooth movement of your lens and camera.

All the shots above were not done in the best lighting either. I think that's why martin.au was saying shoot them in the sun next time

You Aussies and these Wrens of your's, why don't you just stab me in the heart !! They are GORGEOUS and even though the female is not as coloured, she is a real beauty as well. Post some up Vas

Excellent series and work Vass. These wrens are great characters and the male's plumage is striking.

I see you are using f/5.6 with the 40-150mm + MC14. This seems to be the sweet spot for this combo as I am achieving good results at the same aperture.

Cheers

Dennis

Very nice pics indeed my man. Beautifully captured and lovely detail. What beautiful animals they are. Here are few versions of what I have here in the SW. Splendid Wren, Red Winged Fairy Wren and female Splendid Wren. I'm blessed with generous and diverse birdlife here. I try to care for them diligently. Taking pics of them just a small part of the privilege of sharing this place. Look forward to seeing more of your work.

Re: Superb Fairy-wren and his rich plumage

Very fragile birds, I once has to untangle one that had fishing line caught on it's leg that caused it to get stuck on a fence. I set it free but remember how light weight the bird was and how much larger the feathers make it look. The bird felt like the weight of a pen.

The only place I have seen these is in the bush and they are sooo darn skittish..

The focal length you'll need if you actively try to chase them down:

FZ200 + 1.7x TC, ~950mm EFL

The focal length you need if you sit down somewhere and wait for them to stop by (briefly as it may be):

TZ70, 400mm EFL

Of course you can always get lucky too.
