30mm sigma art = 50mm FF

after a lot of research and testing I decided on the sigma 30mm art and picked it up new from a local shop for $150. I tested my old pentax FF film camera with a 50mm prime and the 14 42 kit lens set to 30 mm and the FOV was exactly the same , after getting home just now the sigma is also exactly the same. I also looked up the DOF charts for the 25 1.8 and at 10ft both the sigma stopped at 2.8 and the 25 oly stopped at f2.o had identical DOF , so im a pretty happy chappy  saving a few dollars on the way to a perfect combo EM5 + 30mm art. as a 50mm equivalent.

Not quite - it's the equivalent of 60mm field of view but I agree it's a great lens...I have one too, and also highly recommend its longer 60mm sibling.

Well sometimes lens manufacturers round up or round down their lens labelling to suit "known" lens focal length steps.  As the Sigma Art lens was designed for aps-c use I would not be surprised if it did not exactly convert to a precise "30" and there is also no telling whether your FF "50" is precisely a "50" as there were quite a few "55" lenses on offer and presumably some were in-between and labelled "50" for convenience and market acceptance.  Nobody is going to worry much if the lens on their camera is truly a 52.6mm and not a precise 50mm.

In any case "50-60" in FF terms, it is an academic exercise - it is a good lens any which way.

I razed the topic as like me was looking for 50mm ff and thought the 30 would be a bit to close, but to my surprise it was exactly the same ?

I just put a 40mm prime on my ff pentax and its equal to 25mm on my epl5.

Interesting isn't it, I have 10 50mm primes and it the same on all of them.

I could be wrong but I think I read somewhere that the Oly 25mm is a tinsy bit wider than the Panny 25mm...though I may have mistaken those lenses with two totally different Oly and Panny lenses

Your 35mm SLR has a 3:2 aspect ratio and your m4/3 has a 4:3 aspect ratio.

The Sigma 30mm lens for the APS-C Sony NEX series produces 1.5 X 30 = 45mm FF equivalent, for what it's worth. It is pretty much identical to the Sigma 30 for M43, except that the mount and concomitant registry distance is suitably changed.
