G7 + Sigma 30mm f2.8 Sample Photos

Finally got to take my new G7 for a walk with my daily carry Sigma 30mm f2.8.

All photos are OOC JPGs taken using the "Standard" setting. All shots at f2.8 with exposure adjusted to stay at or near ISO 200.

Mechanical shutter used for all photos.

Uninspiring subjects and composition are down to me, not the camera...

Nice samples.

I've had best results with Panasonic JPEGs from using the curves menu to create an S curve with shadows/highlights. Also upping contrast to taste. Have you tried this?

I think you have a good start.

You do a good job of leading the eye down different paths in the photo.

I would also try using the rule of thirds, adjusting the alignment slightly.

And use some different perspectives than you usually see - squat down, hold camera over head, or tilt it.

A good way to get use to this is to alter the perspective/dimensions in a photo editor to alter the perspective. (in Silkypics if you got that with your camera - the icons along the bottom).

Also try raising the contrast and saturation - the easiest way is in the camera, which will affect the jpegs. If you shoot raw, it won't affect the raw image, so you would have to do that in Silkypics.

Shoot a raw image and edit the rw2 file with Silkypics or RawTherapee and just start adjusting each of the options until you find something you like, then try to emulate that while you are shooting or with the camera settings. (Silkypics is the easiest, RawTherapee is very complex)

Thanks for the feedback and helpful tips.

While intending to put these images out there to give the forum and idea of how the 30mm Sigma and the G7 work together, a few pointers are always welcome.

Thanks for the info Terminal Boy, very useful stuff.

Next time I go to the camera shop I'm going to try some Jpeg/WB tweaks in the G7 to try to get 'nicer' Jpegs than my last 'standard' tests.

'Scenic' seems nearest for me, but there was still a bit of a grey/blue dullness.
