Fine if you want the size and weight for the bright aperture

...

but really EVERY Olympus owner should at least have the original 40-150 cheap zoom.

Thank you all for your reactions. They made me doubt more, in stead of the 2.8 Oly the Pana 2.8 or the small Oly 4--5.6?, they convinced me otherwise to choose for the Oly 2.8, because of the, except one, enthusiastic reactions from users of the Oly 2.8 and their pictures.

So.... Just now I ordered the Oly 40-150 2.8, will arrive tomorrow...

And now I've got to concentrate on taking pictures, not the gear.

Thanks, Rien

I have one E-M 10 that my 40-150 f/2.8 and or MC-14 lives on. The other one get my variety of lenses. I have the 40-150 f4.0-5.6 and I just never learned to love it (although my wrist, elbow and shoulder love it).

I have held the 40-150mm f2.8 several times always mounted on an E-M1 at various stores in Japan. It is a large, heavy lens so much different than other m4/3 lenses. Whether you would like to start getting back to DSLR size and weight is only something you can decide.

For $100.00, I just ordered one from Adorama who shipped it free,  and included a 3-year spill & drop warranty. i will hve it Thursday.

I also have the 14-42 EZ,  and have had great results with it.

I think we are all getting spoiled with the diminutive size of these lenses.  The 40-150 f/4-5.6 is now the largest in my bag and it seems HUGE!    Great lens for the price though....you will love it.  I just sold my Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 VR to buy a Olympus 45mm 1.8...slowly the tides are turning......

The 40-150 2.8 ? I can afford it, but.... still pricy, heavy.... What was the reason I left Nikon.. too bulky and heavy.... ?

In all fairness, the equivalent to the 40-150 Pro is the Singma 120-300 which is a mamoth lens. The Sigma is a 3kg lens, the 40-150 is 880 grams, roughly half the size of the 120-300. So in contrast it's a third of the weight, half the size and a third of the cost.
For what the 40-150 can do, it is far from heavy or bulky, you can't expect a lens thats 300 at the tele end with a fast 2.8 to be pocket friendly. Your expectations are unrealistic.

My wife and I were a bit hesitant to pick up the lens because honestly, I've never purchased a lens at that price range being only an amateur photography. But considering the field of view you get for it's size compared to a FF DSLR, pro level build quality and constant f2.8 aperture, we jumped the gun and have no buyers remorse whatsoever. The weight is not bad at all! Just recently went on vacation to Hawaii with my E-M1 along with the Oly 12-40, 40-150, and some primes in a messenger bag and had no difficulty carrying it around all day.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the images I'm able to get with it!

Re: No real issue with portability.

Hi Paul,

So glad to read your comments re: 40-150 2.8 and EM 5. I've been considering this lens for some time, but have been concerned about it being unwieldy on my EM5 2. I'll definitely be purchasing one now!

Regards,

Pete Bond

You resurrected a two year old thread but I thought I think the comments are all still valid.

I would suggest something like a Photodiox grip for the larger lens.
