How to AF in Live View with 450d

Just spent the best part of 2 hours trying to help someone use their Canon 450d in Live View mode. It would autofocus fine when using the optical viewfinder after half pressing the shutter, but not in Live View.

Eventually I found that the FE, or asterisk button (zoom out in playback button) enabled the focusing. Is this the only way it works?

Yes, that's the way it works. I had a T4i/450D before I got my 650D. The 650D allows the use of half-press shutter button to AF in Live View, but not the 450D.

Re: How to AF in Live View with 450d

Just to clarify, the T4i is the same as a 650D.  I think the 450D is the same as an XSi.

Oops, yes, the 450D is the XSi and the 650D is the T4i.

There is also a quick mode option set by C.Fn-8.  See page 102 in the manual.
