Fuji XF 90 F2 Quick Review
7
I received my fuji XF 90 f2 7/15/2015. I took a few test shots over the last couple of days and I found myself making what was later to be deemed irrational acts. I advised the kids not to touch the lens because they could lose a finger. I used it to shave. A yak. And I still found I was able to cut my overcooked steak like butter it was that sharp...... Okay. Everything except the yak. Now that I have your attention here are a few things. This isn't about this maker and that maker and a bunch of blah blah blah. I chose Fuji because it was lighter, the low light capability and there had been an increasing trend of lenses with a lot of superlatives.
When I shoot during weddings I am a ground rolling, hanging of the rail always looking for an angle type of shooter. I have gotten dehydrated more than once, but I pack everything plus a back up. Any shot that is “soft” on a key spot is user error. Very silent focus and with the electronic shutter you could be through 2 memory cards before people even know that you are shooting. Extremely quick and accurate lock on.
The aperture ring feels very responsive and I can tell when I move it. To be honest this lens could probably make you feel like it adds some extra megapixels with the amount of detail it can capture. The shots taken I would consider low static. I will update once it's had a bit more of a work out.
!!!!Warning this lens wide open WILL expose a missed focus shot!!!!! You can look at the pictures of the F2 shots and pretty quickly point out what's in focus and what is not. 2 reasons why - Still a very thin focal plane at F2 and because of the ability of this lens to render the focus points detail. You can go from counting the hairs of the eye lashes and seeing the bumps of the skin surrounding the eye to soft. For that reason I will be careful on using the lens wide open for erratic subjects because when you miss you miss and no soft contrast will hide it. But when you catch that eye the details....Wow. 2 feet is awesome as well and while not a macro - this thing can hoover suck the detail from this sensor!!
