We're a strange lot . .

. . in the beginning, life was simple in the Sigma compact world.

There was the DP1 and the DP2. Everybody wrote DP1 and DP2 and we all knew what they meant. Then came the 's' and the 'x' models and some folks added the suffices and some didn't. Uncertainty began to creep in.

Next, the Mighty Merrills burst onto the scene in a blaze of glory and posters made damn sure they wrote in caps, especially the 'M' (it's that elitist thing).

Shortly (for Sigma) after that, here comes the Quattro but also an increase in uncertainty along with an increase in the use of lower case (it's that texting thing) - to the point now when someone mentions their "dp2" we are forced to look at context in order to decide between DP2, DP2s, DP2x, DP2M, DP2Q. All a bit confusing for your resident pedant

But now I notice that caps are once again popular, probably because Sigma has released the lower-case dp0 [sic] without the 'Q' - therefore everybody here has started writing "DP0Q", to my infinite puzzlement.

Oh well, off to take some shots with the 1, not sure which 1, or maybe I'll take the sdXIV . . .

That would make "the universe" a mere human construct. Cripes! Nothing exists!

Not even this.

You know, people are lazy and superficial...

It is so easy, as you wrote there are:

DP2, DP2s, DP2x, DP2 Merrill, dp2 Quattro.

Whether you use lower case or upper case shouldn't confuse and using M and Q as an abbreviation is also OK in my point of view. BTW, there is no dp0, is is consistingly called dp0 Quattro.

The real problem is that a lot of people don't give all information which is needed to understand their posts. Sometimes they give misleading or wrong information.

On the other hand, people don't read properly as well. Sometimes, I am very irritated and frustrated by answers to my posts. It is amazing what people can read into something which is clearly written. A combination of their own fuzzyness and a lot of assumptions and prejudice overlaying the real information even before it is analyzed by their brain.

Right, so easy indeed, FD. I'll be monitoring the situation and will bring the Wrath of Pedantry down on any transgression!

BTW, there is no dp0, it is [consistently] called dp0 Quattro.

Yes, that's how Sigma calls it, I know.

Didn't take long for it to get consistently capitalized and contracted here, though!

My post was actually inspired by these two recent posts, and was tongue-in-cheek - not meant to be a rant:

DP0Q arrived, let the charging begin!

New official DP0Q samples

Yepp, when the improved dp2c Quattro arrives, it is going to be called DP2Qc.

Ha

Could well be, Brian. Except these days, it's a bit problematic to distinguish from what the rest of the US may be...at least in this silly season...

Relaxing just to think of you there in your own pleasant evenings. Missing the chance to visit that interesting place.

Best,
Clive
