Buying a G1X Mark II

Looking to sell my Sony RX100 and replace it with a Canon G1X MarkII. the Sony take nice enough pictures but its just too small. Had a Canon G9 prior to the Sony and loved using it and the pictures.

Looking for any thoughts or feedback on buying a factory reconditioned unit, looks like brand new in the box, full warranty for $549.00, no tax. I'm pretty sure this is a good price but wondered is anyone else might have bout reconditioned or have some feedback.

That looks like a very good price, and if it's got the full waranty then I don't see how you could go wrong.

If you're looking at this page:

http://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/cameras/refurbished-powershot-digital-cameras

then I hope you noticed the $584.99 price is not the Mark II.

When you buy a refurb from Canon, Canon refurbished it and Canon gives the warranty.

If you're not buying it from Canon, then who refurbished it and who is giving the warranty? Maybe it's a good deal, maybe not.

Re: Buying a G1X Mark II

Hey DBall -

Hope this is appropriate to mention here, but I'll probably be putting my G1X MkII up for sale this weekend.  I got it Sept 2014 to take on a work trip (carry on only vs. dSLR gear) and I've really grown to love it.

Only reason I'm selling - taking the family to Disney in a couple of weeks, wanted something smaller so got a G7X, and can't justify having two cameras like this in addition to the dSLR stuff.  My initial thought is I prefer the G1X MkII to the G7X...except for the size.  Don't get me wrong G1X MkII isn't big; just not cargo shorts pocket friendly (which is my requirement for Disney).

If you're interested PM me.  I kitted out the camera pretty nice - has an Eveready case, spare Canon battery and Canon flash.

Thanks I was looking at that page and a week ago the refurbished G1X was under $300 and thats what started me looking. What I found was on Amazon.

Yes I am suspicious, claim is it was bought from Canon as refurbished and never used or opened except to take a picture for the sale posting. Since its return/refundable I'm going to grab it and see if there are any issues registering it as new/refurbished with Canon.  If so its going back, if all is ok then ai found a good deal!

I am keeping the G1X Mk2, but I also just bought the G7X. (Going for US$410 warranteed if you know the right stores in HK.) Mostly for the extra resolution.

I have an RX100 Mk2. It does many things (including greater flexibility, particularly for video) the Canons don't except, for my money, take pictures I prefer or make the experience of taking them so enjoyable.

I am not interested in the later iterations of RX100 because I am not interested in the slower glass or shorter focal lengths for greater price. I even find the focal length of the G7X a little more limiting than I'd like. I'd miss the extra 20mm on the G1XMk2 if I gave it up completely.
